This is embarrassing but I'm never quite sure how to hold the ez bar. Also, how much does one weigh?

LOLOLOL Just when I think the euphemisms can't get any better...Considering the wife had significant work done to her oven many years ago, we were happy when baking was fun again! I think I may have even frosted the cake early that day ....
I'm sure I'm much fatter than that, chickie. Not that I'm gonna put underwear pictures up and ask for a vote.
So, guise, I had a horrible night's sleep last night. Fell asleep at 11:30 or so, woke up at 1:45. Watched an episode and a half of Fringe, read like 4 chapters in my book, had the space heater in the bedroom on, then off, throat was dry and scratchy, having carpal tunnel-like tingling and pain in my forearms because my traps are super tight and pressing on my brachial plexus ...wide awake for hours. Finally fell back to sleep around 5:30. Woke up at 7 with a full bladder and hearing a weird scraping noise outside. Pee, look out window. Oh, it snowed, sonofabitch. Say fukc it and go back to bed to read, fall back to sleep, and finally get a good 3 hours sleep in a row, not waking up till after 10:30. Now I feel totally disoriented because it feels like I had another day in the middle of the night, LOL. Hoping if I wait long enough the little bit of snow out there will melt so I don't have to clear it, but I suppose I should shower and eat something some time soon. Trying to figure out how to treat my own traps b/c I can't really afford a massage this week.

Well, that's what I remember thinking the last time you posted piccies So there!
Sorry you had a rough night of interrupted sleep! I hate those nights!
There are some great trap stretches I found when mine were bothering me! The door one where you put your arms straight out to the side and bend them on a 90 degree angle pointing your hands upwards and press your forearm up against a door frame and lean into it a little while turning your head away from that side. Feels painful but awesome afterwards! There are a bunch- I can't do much here at work but there are some great videos on trap stretches on youtube!Team Cookies Give You Superpowers

x2 on doorway stretch, DOOO ITTTTT! Sorry about your awful night, sleep problems suck. I hate when I wake up to the sound of my neighbors running a snowblower at 7am on a Saturday wtf. Who the hell gets up before 11am on a Saturday?!
Re EZ curl bar: most are like 25lbs but I suggest you weigh them on a scale. Lol hold it however it feels comfy, I strongly suggest doing it so your palms are pointed inwards or you will jack up your elbows, wrists, and shoulders, can go wide or narrow. The EZ bar is a gateway to never ending possibilities lol.Last edited by thehobbes; 02-06-2013 at 10:27 AM. Reason: i spelled saturday wrong, that's just embarassing

Oh, yeah, I guess I didn't show you guys that. I painted that part of the backsplash w/ chalkboard paste a couple weeks ago. (That's the kind of thing that happens when I have too much time on my hands, LOLOL). That's why there's no switch plate up there too. I didn't put it back b/c I wanna get new ones. I tried to get my son to draw something on there for me (he's like Mammie, he's good w/ the cartoons) but so far he has not cooperated.
Smoothie was delish. Thinking of having one for breakfast.
I broke down and made a massage appointment for tonight. It's only money and I really need to get to feeling better before snowmeggadon hits and I spent two days shoveling. Two feet of snow? Eff you, Mother Nature. The weather guys are all sh*tting themselves with glee about the "historic storm." Like it never fukcing snows here. Bastards. Eff you, too.
Will lift today too. Supposed to theoretically be full body day, but I might just do some legs and rest my back/shoulders.

Hey guise, incoming stupid question - what is this Partitioning you speak of? Is that pretty much being at a bf where you are cut enough to see outlines of triceps, abs, quads, whatever? Googled this and did not find anything bb related, never heard it before.

Charli!!! Hi! I'm not hardcore enough for spirulina Massage was great.
You get all those hurricanes though Sometimes I feel like moving somewhere there's no weather like...I dunno...Arizona?
Oh, calorie partitioning, Hammie. Lori can probably explain this better than me, but supposedly when you're over a certain bodyfat % your calorie partitioning changes and your excess bulking calories are more likely to go to making more fat than making more muscle. I dunno how much I believe that, but it scares me nevertheless, hahaha.

I did decide just to do legs today, but I didn't back squat because I was so tight, just putting my arms back to hold the bar was making my L side tweak and pull. I managed to deal with it for 3 sets of good mornings, but I zerchered for squats instead.
leg press 220x12x1 240x8x1 260x8x1
Zerchers 95x8x1 115x6x3 115x5x2
single legged leg press 120x8x1 140x8x2
good mornings 65x8x1 75x8x1 85x8x1<--that might be a PR but I'm too tired to go get my old log and check, LOL

I'm curious about this too. I feel like I remember reading mid to high 20's is where you get less muscle for your bulking buck- it was probably a sticky around here but I'm not sure... I wonder if there are any studies out there? I've thought using a bf cutoff as a way to know when it was time for me to end mine because of this.

I like that you used Zercher as a verb Drea. You need some more of dat hot yoga, seems like you've had some stuff tightening up on you lately. Or hell a massage, you are in the secret circle of massage therapist buddies, use it to your evil advantage muwahhahaha!!
Wow would've never guessed that's what the partitioning thing was referring to. I gotta disagree with that unless some wild scientific studies appear. I have a higher bf than that year round and I gain strength like crazy when I bulk. Lots of PL brahs are big and hammie too cause it's just easier, if you got more bang for you buck with cutting to fighting weight and doing what you could in that smaller weight class I think people would go that route, but I don't think it works like that. (Would be a huge advantage to PL to be in a lower wt class if it was like that because less weight being lifted = less stress on your joints on the same body frame, and it's always easier to improve lifts starting from a lesser weight.) Could be a proportions thing maybe? As for straight up weight gain it's oodles easier for a 200lb person to gain 50lbs on their bp than it would ever be for a 100lb individual, especially if both are 5'6" females srs ham is srs. If you're talking % wise that's really not even a fair comparison with a 100 and 200lb person. /Ham trying to put the kibash on the theory of partitioning lol, up next: arguing gravity!Current PRs:

You explained it well, Andrea! I gotta admit though- I don't know how much I believe that either. If it is true- then I think that bulking at a higher bf may give you 0.05% more fat vs muscle than bulking at a lower bf. I thought about Hammers, and then thought about all the other women who are heavier and have awesome muscles and strength and wondered if that was even true, and decided that if it is- it can't be by much. All I can say though is women who bulk at low bf % always end up looking amazing after their bulks, with noticeably more muscle. But I don't know, it's probably because they're so lean starting out that even with a 20lb gain they're still in the low bf percentages and have good bf distribution (thinking of Birdifu, Meg and Stephanie, here)
Anyway, nice workout Andrea!

The problem with that is that it's really hard to get an accurate bodyfat % unless you have access to a dexa scan apparently, which most of us don't.

That's sorta my feeling too--that even if it's true, it's probably a small effect. And it's probably only really relevant to people who are actually bodybuilders/figure competitors. Is an extra pound or two of fat going to make any significant difference in *my* life? Probably not!

Oh, hai, guise.
Still snowed in. We're at like 22 inches and still snowing (though winding down.) There's still a travel ban on: no driving, no public transportation. But I didn't lose my electricity, so it's been semi-fun. Productive, anyway. Yesterday I did laundry, talked w/ a friend on the phone for like two hours, finished cleaning out my bookcases, cleaned out my bedroom closets (I had done them before my surgery but yesterday I *really* did them i.e. found a box of magazines in the back from 1995, lolol, and threw out two bags of crappy hangers), wrote a blog post, cleaned and vacuumed the hallway, cleaned the hell out of the kitchen including steaming out the microwave, and then cracked open a bottle of wine. I have a couple more things I want to do in the bedroom today before starting to dig out. Which, btw, not sure I can open my front door--I think there's a big drift up against it.
Weighed myself this morning--117 still. So I have successfully slowed the fulk down. Eight pounds in 3 1/2 months is a little less scary than eight pounds in just over two months, hahaha.
Maybe I'll make it to the gym tomorrow..."Eat some oatmeal, do some squats, how hard is that seriously."--Prof Ham

snowpocolypse, pictorial edition
That's my front door with an almost 5 foot high drift in front of it. SMH My friend texted me a picture of his car in his condo parking space with no snow on it. That's how it was when he went out--the wind blew the snow off it entirely. SMH My son and I just shoveled for 3 1/2 hours and every muscle in my body hurts. That was winter 2010/11 here--every four days or so from just after Christmas to the middle of February we had another snowstorm. I was NOT HAPPY, luzl.
I think you were the smart one I kinda pooped out today after getting all that shiz done Friday and then shoveling for hours yesterday. My sum total of activity was: one load of laundry, a tiny bit more shoveling, then walking to Dunkin Donuts...to buy donuts The rest of the day has been all sloth and gluttony.
Yes, ladies, it was too much snow
Too fukcing much! hahaha No, the internet tells me that the official total where I live was 28 inches.
Last night I was so exhausted I went to bed at 10:30 and was passed out in approximately 3.7 seconds. Today I went out to widen the entrance to my driveway and shovel the part of my sidewalk that goes from my driveway to the mailbox. It was much easier shoveling today than yesterday because the sun was out and the snow was nice and soft. Then, like I said, I walked to Dunkin Donuts--I told my son yesterday I was gonna buy us donuts to make up for the approximately 19000 calories we burned yesterday Can I tell you? They only had *3* kinds of donuts, no bagels, only one other pastry. I don't know if they weren't expecting any customers, or what. And I have been starving today, my body wants those calories it expended, haha. I had: 2 1/2 cups of coffee w/ cream, an english muffin with peanut butter, two cheese sticks, two Chobani yogurts, two donuts , two chicken legs, and another yogurt. I should probably have a vegetable, huh? hahahaha Is wine a vegetable?
I may just take a few more days off from the gym. I haven't been able to go since Thursday and my neck/shoulders/forearms are not feeling any better what with all the physical labor, so maybe I'll deload this week. TBD!
Happy Sunday!Last edited by dreahere; 02-10-2013 at 04:08 PM. Reason: forgot some foodz

Yeah that does sound like a good opportunity to deload, I hate having to take a deload during the few times everything is feeling good and I have all the time in the world to go to the gym.
Lol at Dunkin Donuts. I went there one time for some of those awesome donuts with the cream in the middle and sprinkles of course, well their donut machine or something broke so they have NO donuts, only coffee and sammiches. I flipped the F out srs, was a couple yrs ago, have never been back to one of those since.Current PRs:
