    Unable to Squat, Advice Required.

I have been body building for 8 weeks now and I am still unable to squat.*Basically*I lose balance when I go down which results in me falling over backwards. Is or has anyone*experienced*anything like this? If so how did you overcome it.

    Many have.

Your form most likely sucks. You should probably take a gander at the Fundamentals of the Back squat in the stickies of this very section. Possibly film yourself so we can tell you what you're doing wrong.

i would suggest look up a few videos on proper form and then hit the gym and squat just using the bar itself for a few sets of 15-20 reps so you can get the right form and balance down. but dont put any weight on the bar yet. do that for a few workouts til you feel you have the proper balance and form. til then use the smith to squat.

Your hamstrings are probably tight and I think it's preventing you from keeping the weight over your balance point.

I didn't start lifting until about 240lbs OP and I had balance issues also. I suggest downloading some basic yoga routines and looking up stretches that help flexibility. Also highly recommend buying starting strength. I worked on my squat form for months just going off the internet guides and feel like my form has improved more in the few weeks since I bought the book than it did during those months.

Same here but I still highly suggest buying the book. There are some great videos but they just don't cover everything in depth like the book does. And cmon 30 bucks Is less than most of us spend on sups a month and it's a one time investment.

Many noobs have problems learning to Squat. If the vid already posted in this thread doesn't get you on the right track, post one of yourself. It's very difficult to sort out someone's form problems without actually seeing them performing the lift.

i had this issue as well when first learning to squat. it wasnt a flexibility issue though. it was an issue of me trying to keep my back completely vertical lol. get a vid as most have suggested.
