Would not invest in a n android tablet that wasn't promised to get ics or can't at least have it rooted and flashed onto it. Muuuuch nicer then honeycomb

I know this is old but this does make some sense. The phone market is much more mature than the tablet market. My 2 year old HTC Incredible can handle basically anything that the modern phones can. That's not necessarily the case with tablets because the market is less mature - they haven't been working on them and improving them for quite as long.

My question with regards to the GPS on the Prime is this: everybody says they don't need a 10" gps to drive in their car which is all well and good. I want to know if I'm home on my wireless network and I look up Pizza on the browser, will it show up with the nearest pizza places the way it would on my android phone or would I need the GPS dongle for that?

One of the settings under "location services" is to use data from sources such as wifi and mobile networks to determine your location.... If that's selected, it might help without using the GPS feature...

Any brahs find use for a tablet in college? I figure iOS would have apps that would help with studying/learning new material, etc. Basically I'm trying to justify purchasing a tablet lol.

it will use the wifi location service to find you the nearest pizza place. The dongle is pretty much for navigation type gpsing and gpsing without a wifi connection.

I have the Xoom... which if you can find one cheap, it's a good value. The current custom rom (EOS 2.0 / nitely 103) is incredibly fast and stable. Even if you go for a different tablet - the 1st gen. android tablets are still very nice. First thing to do is check over on XDA forums to see if whatever tablet you want has people making roms and such for it. That way even if the manu is taking their time with updates, you have devs in the community who are doing much more with the device.

If you already have an android phone, might as well stick with an android tablet.

I want to get a tablet and was going for the New Ipad, then changed my mind to an asus. But can't figure out the models...lol

It depends what you are planning to do. If your main purpose is to read books etc, I would simply get a basic kindle. I got both basic kindle and samsung tab 10.1. I ended up using the kindle alot more (lighter, more efficient, easier to read).

is there a difference at all between the kindle and kindle touch (besides the whole touch thing)?

Also, do you have the poverty version with ads? its like 40 dollars less, but not sure how annoying it will be

i had a look at some 7 inch tabs today. and didnt realize just how small they are. might end up going for a 10 inch one. i can get the xoom for about £250/$400ish(?). if it comes back in stock. its sold out everywhere which blows.

What's the difference between Transformer Pad, Prime and Infinity?

All three belong to the transformer line, which means they're all ten inch tablets with fully functional keyboard dock add ons. They all run ICS, and all three are tegra 3 tablets. The Pad is the cheapest model (and actually what I'm typing on right now, picked it up yesterday and absolutely love it so far) It has an IPS display, solid plastic construction and a 1.2 Ghz tegra 3. The screen and build quality are primarily where the sacrifices are made in the name of price, and even then you're not really giving up much. Screen is still a great IPS, and the build is still high quality plastic, but its a bit heavier and a bit thicker than the aluminum prime.

The prime is a step up, internally its very similar, except for it runs about 100mhz faster (Basically no difference). Its main differences are that it has an awesome aluminum build which is thinner, lighter, and up to apple standards of quality, and that its got an IPS+ display which essentially just gets brighter than the one on the Pad. Useful if you spend a lot of time outside, but otherwise not much of a difference, just a nicer build quality and slightly better screen for $100 more. Asus just needed a tablet that could be in line with the IPad in terms of look and feel.

Transformer infinity is basically the same as the Prime but comes with a 1920*1200 HD screen instead of the 1280*800 one on the pad/prime. As far as I know, everything else is essentially the same, but the screen is IPS+ with a retina esque pixel density. Its unreleased, I think it should be coming out soon though.

I wouldnt buy a prime right now because the infinity is similar in pricing and in quality but has a much nicer screen. The Pad is in my biased opinion an awesome purchase though, especially if youre going to pair it with the keyboard dock. For me atleast, it turns it into a laptop replacement that I can use for work and emailing, leaving my gaming desktop to any heavy computing, and for all intents and purposes making my macbook unnecessary for the majority of what I do. Not everyone will be able to use it in that fashion, but if youre a light laptop user, it can definetly supplement if not replace what you use your laptop for.

Hey you little 7 incher wannabes - don't buy anything til the new Asus Nexus 7" tablet comes out at the Google IO which I believe is in the next two weeks.
