If you watch the video a bit better you'll see the knee he blows out actually accidentally 'locks out' from him moving his feet about and him losing his balance. As a result of trying to correct this, because all the weight his muscle was previously holding up just got dumped onto a fully extended knee which no doubt hurt and for a lot of people would undoubtedly **** up their knees, he unlocks his left knee very quickly and it moves forward and slightly in leaving him in a very weak position to try and right himself from then gravity capitalises like the sadistic bitch she is.
OPs solution would probably make the problem worse and you would run the risk of hyperextending your knees and your knees would hate you and rightfully so. He lost control of the weight and tried to fix it when he should probably have bailed.
To prevent it stay in control of the weight, don't attempt to tap dance with heavy weights on your back and keep your knees out, especially when using a wide stance since this seems to only really happen with wide stances.
