Smashing it as always my zombie brother!

My tan arrived today also, what made you decide to go with that brand? I went with Phil Kabakoff's equinox, contest colour and body shimmer.

Yeah I paid $185 all up, but that's enough for two comps worth according to Phil. He made me an offer I couldn't refuse haha.

    Quads & Calves

I felt amazing today. Im not gonna lie, I just felt wonderful. Its weird, the last week or so Ive felt much more energetic and "zombie-mode" has only been brief if at all... and this is AFTER a drop to carbs?!!? Oh well, not gonna complain So yeah, had an Anatomy exam that I feel pretty confident about. I put in the work over the last week or so to make sure I knew everything I had to, although I did struggle a little with the nervous system :/ Muscular and Skeletal were my biatch, but Nervous did have me a tad stumped unfortunately. Oh well, still better than I thought I would go I think, so I was in a good mood! Time to have my apple and hit the gym....

    Quads

3 x Hack Squat superset Sissy Squat

2 x Leg Extension (+ 3 Forced Reps Per Set)

1 x Leg Extension TRIPLE DROPSET superset Sissy Squats (to failure)

    2 x Single Leg Bodyweight V-Squat

I was feeling really strong again today, so we decided this would be BIG... and it was! The Hack Squats were heavier and with more reps than usual, and despite struggling with form initially on the Sissy Squats (first time Id ever done them), I grew to love them and the ridiculous pump that came with them!! Then we hobbled over to Leg Extension (well I hobbled and Ben walked lol), knowing that these werent going to be "going through the motions" sets. The first two sets were agonising, but not the worst thing Id done. However, the final set was straight retarded. Triple Drop and I could hardly raise my legs' own weight, let alone the plates lol. I thought the extreme pain I was in was the end of it all... then Ben shouts "Alright now Sissy Squats!" After about 20 or 25, I dont remember, I collapsed. Feeling amazing and horrendous at the same time Ben was proud, I was fcked. I thought that was it, and then he told me to jump on the V-Squat... These one-legged bodyweight V-Squats are hard on the quads, but destroy your glutes! I was in so much pain at the end haha. This was by far the biggest Quad sesh Ive had with Ben!!

    Calves

3 x Standing Calf Raise superset Seated Calf Raise

Theres not a lot to say about this one. Just high high high volume, and crazy calf pumps. I was in pure agony by the end and could hardly walk. I dropped the lid of my bottle and spent about 30 seconds figuring out how to pick it up :P

    Overall

Just feeling really great today! I've finished exams for a while, my next one is in 2 weeks time. I have to do an assignment too, but I have next week off and it's not due for a couple of weeks so I'll do it next week. This week off is perfectly timed. I only have to work 2.30-3.30pm on Tues and Thurs (for $75 ), and then I have the rest of the week to train, study and sort out anything else I need to in regards to prep. Im feeling really organised atm, and might have this weekend off study, just to relax and re-compose myself. Today was the first day of Spring and the weather is really starting to become fantastic.... I think that might have something to do with my peculiarly timed energy and attitude boost. Feeling on track, still two weeks to sort out any tightening up that needs to occur, and Ive still got to get a wax and a tan which will make a big difference! Yep...Today was a good day

Agree on the weather part, especially getting leaner during winter it's absolutely miserable! We had a few nice days here in Hobart and my soul just felt uplifted, motivation went through the roof, unfortunately the weather has turned to **** again lately!

That quad session sounds ridiculous, if I tried anything like that I would catch the flu or something :P

    Chest & Biceps

I woke up in the middle of the night after dreaming Id cheated on the diet lol. I peed and then couldnt get back to sleep because I was thinking about food haha. Luckily I still got a good sleep and woke up ready to train at 10 with Ben and City Gym.

    Chest

3 x Bench Press Dropset + Pushups to failure

    3 x Decline DB Flies

3 x Hammer Strength Incline Press

3 x High Cable Crossover superset Low Cable Crossover

This was an immense workout. We seem to have upped the intensity as we come towards the end of this long and grueling prep. The dropset bench and then pushups to failure was fcking crazy, but made me realise how much strength Ive lost! I used to be able to do 100kgs for 8 unspotted reps, and that was after plateauing on bench... today I got 80 for 12 lol. Oh well, the drops and the pushups meant I was ruined at the end! After 2 more crazy exercises, I couldnt believe my eyes when Ben started setting up the Cable Crossover lol.

    Biceps

3 x Seated DB Hammer Curls Dropset

3 x Cable Curl superset Cable Rope Curls

Theres not a lot to say about this. Brachialis had a nutcase pump from the Rope Curls and my bi's were already ruined at that point, so my arms were just FUKED!! I want to take a minute to point how amazing the seated DB curls are. Ive tried loads of different types of curls, but this is the one exercise that not only just feels the best, but actually anatomically has the most impact on biceps brachii. Ive been getting DOMS in my arms like nothing Ive ever experienced before because of this exercise... so if you dont do it currently, GET ON IT BRAH!!

    Overall

After this I went to uni briefly, then back to the gym to do an hour of some pretty intense cardio. I was feeling really really fuked after this and spent the arvo chullin at a mates joint. I was falling asleep and just had to bail cause I was dying. Im gonna have dinner in a little while and crash pretty early I think. Although, Ive been finding a cup or 2 of green tea makes me buzz like Ive had a double shot espresso!! I guess that shows how fragile my body is atm. Im defs not gonna drink after the show, and in fact Im wondering whether to drink again at all to be totally honest... Hmm something to ponder...

Alright so today is just cardio, and Im pretty bored.... So I decided to take some food porn-esque pics of the meal Ive been living on the last 10 weeks. Chicken. Broccoli. Sweet Potato. For dinner its the same thing, but swap chicken with tuna (in springwater) lol.

Hahaha I cant wait to take a whole of food porn pics after the show and have something amazing to compare this too

Stay tuned, tomorrow I'll post another v-log for ya'll!!

lol guys the food porn thing was a bit of a joke haha. I spend so much time salivating to "post contest binge" and MEN and other such ridiculous threads, I just thought "what if I do one of the super bland meal Ive been eating for the last 10 weeks"... I guess things in contest prep are funnier to yourself when your mind is warped

    Delts & Abs

So there was a mix-up with Ben and he ended up not being able to come today. This meant we had to push posing back to tomorrow, not a big deal, but more importantly, it meant I had to do this workout alone. I was apprehensive at first, but after thinking about it, I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to try out the things Id done with Ben and responded to best. I had a great workout in the end, but I will admit I missed out on the forced reps.

    Delts

3 x Hammer Strength Isolateral Overhead Press

    3 x Nautilus Lateral Raise

4 x Reverse Pec Dec superset Bent Over DB Raises

3 x Seated DB Lateral Raises superset Front Raises

This was more of my normal style of training. I had a fantastic time and really pushed myself as hard as I could. The idea was to do some heavy shiit at first, then some rear delts, then finish with some nutty pumps. Success! Haha I had a great time, and really really went hard on the Reverse Pec Dec, feeling unreal in my rear delts. I love doing seated DB lat raises too, because it ensures form is spot on and you dont use momentum. I was burning up something fierce by the end of this and was satisfied with the workout.

    Abs

3 x Weighted Hanging Leg Raise

3 x Side Hanging Leg Raise

    2 x Ab Crunch Machine

So I recently decided I need to put some more muscle on my abs this offseason, and even though this wasnt going to make much difference, I thought Id give it a crack for this workout. I really went harder than usual on abs, and will defs try to do more weighted stuff in the offseason. I need more muscle on my abs so the cuts are a bit deeper and they look better. Cause atm Im shredded everywhere, but because I dont have much muscle on my abs, they arent too impressive in the Ab & Thigh shot. Anyway, this was great fun to drill out for a change

    Overall

Despite not having Ben, I still think I did myself well with this workout. I did miss out on getting to do forced reps, but I think Ive improved at training myself, which Id always done until I started training with Ben. This is really exciting for me and I cant wait for the offseason now!! Gonna pack on some serious lean mass with my newly acquired knowledge and dieting skills Feeling on top of the world atm, and yeah, dinner soon, might crack out some green tea haha. Catchya fellas.

    Oh yeah.... v-log time

    Hamstrings & Traps

I was feeling pretty fuking depleted today lol. Despite mentally being in a good space, my body was just so drained that walking became a chore. However it was extremely encouraging to see Ben's responses during posing practice today, seems like we're right on track. Initially we were gonna cut creatine out now, but he's really happy with how Im looking, and I keep getting leaner every week (my current physique makes the pics from 4.5 weeks out look like a pillow) so we wont drop it for another week I think. Ben seems pretty confident, and Im really feeding off that. I feel great seeing him happy with how I look, so Im pretty confident Ill be holding a trophy at some point in the next few weeks

    Hamstrings

    3 x Stiff Legged Deadlift

    4 x Seated Hammy Curl

    2 x Prone Leg Curl

    2 x Standing Leg Curl

This was really full on. Especially, as I said earlier, as my body was so drained and depleted today. I went as hard out as I could without putting myself in danger and was really happy with form/weight. So yeah, nothing new and exciting, but just good, tight form and ensuring everything was done to the fullest potential.

    Traps

2 x Machine Barbell Shrugs Face Backwards superset Face Forward superset Farmer's Walk w/ 20kg plates

Feeling pretty fuking dead coming into this, we decided there was no need to do an EPIC trap workout, so we just did 2 full on sets. Really high intensity on both sets, walking slow as fuk and ensuring my shoulders were up to the ceiling on the farmers walk. I was pretty ruined at the end of this, just putting in everything I had left to ensure I got the most out of the workout that I could.

    Overall

Sorry this is such a short update today guys, Im just feeling destroyed to be honest. So glad I have this week off uni lol. Just another day crossed off the calendar today, nothing mindblowing. I think thats what people underestimate though. As cliche as it is... this is a marathon, not a sprint. I think theres a temptation to go balls to the wall and do as much as you physically can every single day, even if it means going beyond the necessary. Now dont get me wrong, a bit of this is great, and will result in success and make you stand out... But its also important to take the days like this as they come. Dont try to drill out more cardio than you need. Dont try to hit a PB if youre feeling a bit weak and would benefit more from concentrated high volume stuff. I think theres a temptation to go as hard as you possibly can, every single day, and theres a satisfaction that comes from that, but too much of that will actually be detrimental. Its easy to fall into the trap of wanting to look 100% every day, but you need to realise that looking like dogshiit a couple of days here and there... is OK! I guess what Im trying to say is: You dont need to be in contest shape on any day other than show day... Just repeating that to myself and making sure I dont lose my mind and try to peak too early is keeping me sane atm I think

    Food

So this is dinner!! I dont usually eat my meals plain as the chicken meal posted up there lol. I just wanted to show the blandest form my food comes in :P But yeah this is what I get for dinner every night lol. Tuna w/ parsley, black pepper, chilli and lemon (I add those but will have to cut them out soon I think), sweet potato and broccoli. Macros: 50.5g protein/ 9g carb/ 2.3g fat

Mate definitely agree with you on not going balls to the wall all the time, this mindset works for some people, but yes for the majority it will just burn you out and make you sick of the whole process. It's a very bro approach also, like those meals you're eating haha, but you're getting the results so no need to change anything, but you have been saying you're sick of the bland food, so maybe look into the IIFYM approach next time, I can guarantee you will be more satisfied with the food and the results are the same. When you get old like me these themes will resonate even more, but I can tell already you are developing the right mindset to stay in the game for as long as you want. Yes it's hardcore to eat chicken and brocoli everyday, and treat every training session like it's your last, but how long can you keep that attitude up, balance is the key.

Thanks a ton man! And yeah I totally agree with you. This diet is working, and Im using every ounce of self-discipline and determination to stick with it, but as soon as the show is over, Im going to start reversing and then clean bulking, using a much more IIFYM approach. I cant wait to get a bit more creative and experimental with my meals, as Im fuking sick of these haha. Im really looking forward to being able to enjoy my food again, whilst having it still be nutritional and work within my macros for my goal. Im probably looking forward to this more than the post-show binge! srs...

In regards to training, Im glad you agree with me. I guess I feel like (especially with this diet), I would burn out and come in super flat if I was doing that every session. Dont get me wrong I still push myself to the limit every session, but I think its important to understand where that limit is and that sometimes going beyond it is brilliant, but sometimes its unnecessary and even detrimental.

Yeah I have started to think past the post contest binge and formulating the plan in my mind as to how I am going to reverse out of this, took so long to get here don't want to wreck it in a matter of weeks!

You will enjoy the IIFYM approach no doubt, to make things easier I stick to the same foods daily, but I make low fat pizzas with mexican tortillas, low fat cheese, toasted sandwiches and flavoured rice cakes. The beauty is if you want something extra, just tack it on and track those macros, I use calorieking everyday and just chuck the food in there. Helps being in front of a computer most of the day.

Keep killing it bro, not long now!!

    Back & Tris

Feeling really really good today. Great energy and just a positive vibe. Keen for a big session in the gym, when I arrived I sat down with Ben and he asked how I was feeling. I said "Strong" and his response was this workout....

    Back

    2 x Lat Pulldown

2 x Hammer Strength Low Row

2 x Isolateral Hammer Strength High Row superset Hammer Strength High Row (two hands)

    2 x Cable Row

This was crazy high intensity, with each set going to around 20 reps and forced reps featuring on almost every set. The lat pulldown started me off with a wicked feeling in my lats, and with focus on slow negatives for the last few reps on both sets, I was really into the workout from the get go. After this came the rowing movements. With these we tend to focus of the lower aspect of my lats, thinking about drawing the lats back into position before a rear lat spread. Mentally going through that feeling of creating an Xmas Tree and bringing it in as tight as possible with each rep. This meant crazy contractions with some forced reps again at the end. Feeling really strong today meant Ben was able to throw some good weight on, and I pushed my body to complete failure. Feeling like shiit and loving it.

    Triceps

2 x Weird Stance Tricep Pushdown

2 x Single Arm Overhead Cable Tricep Extension

1 x Seated Pushdown Machine DROPSET

Still feeling relatively energetic and strong, we went hard out again on tris. I didnt like the weird stance (too hard to describe) pushdowns last time I did them, but today they felt much better. Tris were burning up something fierce by the end! Ben loves these single arm extensions, and they never disappoint. My arms were wobbling and then feeling like exploding as I pushed through these super slow and tight form reps. Ben constantly forcing me to use the maximum possible ROM, saying "partial reps get partial growth" lol. I was destroyed after this, but it was time for our special finisher... The seated pushdowns were wicked and I had to put the belt that attaches you to the seat on because it was so heavy I couldnt sit down otherwise! I drilled out 20 fuking painful reps, then we dropsetted to failure. I think I got about 35 and at the end I just sat there for a while in pain, head in my arms hahaha.

    Overall

I then smashed out 60 mins of really good intensity cardio, still feeding off this energy and positivity I was feeling today. I felt shattered at the end, but at the same time fantastic! Ive been procrastinating like a motherfuker as far as this uni assignment goes unfortunately, but I need to get it done by the end of this week!! Time to knuckle down again and do some study Oh well, tonight I still need to have dinner and cook, and decide on which book to start next Ive been reading heaps lately and smashing through all these books Ive accumulated over the course of numerous Christmas' haha. So fuking close now, I can almost feel the cold trophy in my hands!
