he didn't really tell me yet...he told my parents...anyways...i'm 25...i tore my ACL first time two years ago...i got a patellar tendon graft...but that tore last fall while i was boxing (it tore randomly without any trauma)...since then i was squatting and deadlifting heavy (without the ACL)...only things i couldn't do were pivoting and sprinting...
so i just got revision surgery yesterday ago using hamstring graft...after the surgery my parents told me that the doctor told them i shouldn't be squatting or deadlifting anymore...anybody know a reason for this??...or is this a case of the doctor being way too conservative??...i'm asking this because i could squat and deadlift heavy even without the ACL
please help me...as much as i do not wanna tear my ACL again, squats and deadlifts are two of my most important exercises...without them, the gym means nothing to me...

Because doctors aren't paid to fix patients, they're paid to run tests do other bull****.
The doc will do everything he can do to cover his ass. If you **** up with a life threatening/altering issue it's not his fault if he told you not to do said movement.
I had a knee injury similar to yours OP. I had a meniscus tear and doctors MISDIAGNOSED it for 1.5 years. I got pissed off and told the damn doctor it might me a lateral meniscus tear but they kept denying it. A month later I went into ER because pain got so bad, had mri done...voila meniscus tear.
See a SPORTS DOCTOR, not some general practitioner...OR see a physical therapist who deals with common injuries like this on a daily basis.
Also, say you deadlift and squat but never mention your form.
FORM IS ****ING EVERYTHING.
I tore my knee's meniscus lunging with bad form and aggravated it even more with bad high bar squats with my knees crossing over toes.
Make sure your form is ****ing dead on.

I squat and deadlift with a torn acl. I have not had it repaired but it hasnt stopped me from lifting heavy one bit.
Would you suggest that i have the surgery to repair it?529/380/650 (1560@293 raw)

Hi, I had torn my MCL and the ACL, and I've had the surgery to fix them so now I can control my foot again. ;-D I can't do squats, not full ones anyway. Form is incredibly important, both as you do therapy and after. I can do things that my surgeon said I wouldn't have the strength for, but it has taken years to get to this point.
I would say work with your physical therapist, and listen to what your body says as well. Don't push yourself into re-injuring your knee. Talk to other doctors if you want a second opinion, but always listen to your body. Being sore is fine, but ignoring real pain is asking for trouble. When was the last time you did something for the first time?
