The reason I ask is the racks and bars are too crowded every time I go...
I'd much rather train my chest using the variety of isolation machines, etc.
Is it bad to only just isolation machines?

hmm..
I would say that isolation machines are ok to integrate into a workout (especially if you are a novice), but but but..
its a definite no-no to do JUST isolation machines..
free weights are still the best way to build muscles, mainly because they also help build what you call the "stabilizer" muscles. And free weights help increase your functional strength.

I'm confused, why would you do bench press in a rack?
Also, either find another time to get to the gym, ask if you can work in, do something else and come back later, or just wait. My university gym is crowded all the time, and I've never missed a bench session.
To be honest, the reason we don't use machines for everything is that a big part of the exercise is stabilizing the weight, and there's a lot of muscles and muscle fibers that play into that. On a machine, you can only move the weight in one axis, and the stabilization is done for you.Misc MD Crew

/\ This
7 days spent using machines makes one weak.
Free weights are much easier to track progress and enable you to use supporting and stabilizing muscle groups. Plus not every machine is always open, and you can use a diff one for the same exercise but each one is also a bit different and therefore you can't necessarily transfer progress made on one machine to another.
Then again it's all up to whatever works for you, and in the end that's all that matters.

i usualy only use machines after ive completed freeweight training, so i can focus more on the muscle itself rather than moving heavy weight and trying to stabilize it.
According to Jason Huh all it takes is "time under tension".. so if you get results your happy with from isolation machines, stick with it!Teen until October 17, 2011.

Oh lawd. I'm not sure if there are any pros in any sports that require weightlifting that don't do at least one compound lift... Just get in line for the barbells or dumbbells OP

not bad at all
no, its completely fine. you are not cheating or anything. in fact, you are even working your muscles more, and heres why: you are isolating the certain muscle that you are working on making sure that, if you are wobbly on free weights for example, you wont strain a muscle that you arent supposed to use (at least making that less likely)
