Great idea, OP.
Cliffs:
- Picked up a plastic + cement weight set in the early 80's (Samir was Mr. O!)
- Won my first and only teen comp a few years later at the age of 16
- Training got derailed by IRL stuff: schools, jobs, wives, homes, family, surgery, and other bullsh!t reasons to not lift
- Got fat as hell (40 lbs overweight) over the years, but promised myself to get my old ass back on stage one day...
- Returned to training after a 13-year layoff and won my first overall 25 years after that very first teen contest.
The start of the comeback and 15 months later during contest prep
Similar poses from the start of the comeback to the 2011 off-season
Age 27 and age 42 comparison
Fat ass 2009 vs 2010 off-season vs start of 2011 prep

Will get back to some natty Masters comps (and maybe a few Open shows) this Fall."First train the mind, then the body."

Not a regular poster but definitely a regular reader.
I've been training for almost 2 years now (although the first year, as is the case with most people, was a complete waste of time) starting with an anorexic 125lbs "base" and currently sitting at a pretty comfortable BF for "offseason" @167lbs. I'm planning on competing a year and a half from now, if I put enough mass in the next 12 months to feel ready, that is.
****ty lighting and ****ty camera are ****ty, I KNOW.
Same weight, 1 year apart (1st pic after my initial fail bulk, 2nd pic after my successful bulk/cut):

Thanks, man...
What do you think about the whole muscle memory thing?
But the body recomp was roughly -40 lbs or so of body fat, and +15 to 19 lbs of LBM (I lost some LBM after the prep), which borders on the insane - especially for an > 40 guy with an eye on natty comps. So, I had noob like gains during my first year back, but my LBM gains slowed down to a much more pedestrian 3-4 lbs during the 2nd year of the comeback.
How hard was it for you and your body? Was age a factor?
Connective tissues don't adapt to resistance training at the same rate as muscle tissue at any age, but this issue is amplified as we age. So, paying more attention to recovery was the perhaps the most important modification I made due to age.
On the upside, I require far fewer calories to gain size these days in comparison to my younger years when I struggled to put on mass despite eating everything in sight. So, it's not all bad news!"First train the mind, then the body."

Good work! Could be the difference of the lighting but you look leaner in pic 2 and your back detail and thickness is improved.
Also - Best way to get some traffic in your journal is simply to take in interest in other people's journals - Perhaps find people who are competing in the same show or who are at a similar level? I use to post in wuite a few different journals simply to give people motivation and advice and the same members would come to mine too. Think it was on 100 pages by the time I ended up stopping posting in it.IG: waldronconstruction

@Stefan - Damn bro! Looking sick, I think this is really going to end up being a battle between my lower body and your torso LOL
@mharrislove - Your progress is so freakin' inspirational bro, repped. Just the fact that you competed again after 25 years of your first show is outstanding in itself! Really shows that you have a deep passion for what you're doing, and that's something I aspire to build up to myself!
