I took advantage of the Trutein Cinnabun pre-sale over July 4th. When I got my package, there was a note in the box regarding a problem with the label printer and a coupon for $7 off my next purchase which is a real nice gesture. I couldn't give a damn less if the label was black and white, holographic, or written in crayon. If the ingredient panel is accurate and I can read it - I'm good to go. I trust TruNutrition so the color of the ink on the label is a meaningless inconvenience to me.
After weeks of discussion and build up, I finally got tub of TruNutrition Cinnabun Trutein last week so it's time to review. Like a real modern day dumb ass, I only ordered a 2.5 pound tub. I guess I wasn't sure if I would like it "enough" to have 5 pounds of it.
Pffft. What a stupid purchase that was. I should have ordered several 5 pound tubs.
This stuff is incredible.
Profile:
You know it, you love it. It's awesome. Low calorie, low fats, low carbs, disclosed protein ratios. While other companies are too afraid to release the secrets of their propreitary blended proteins - TruNutrition feels the customer deserves to know what they're paying for and discloses this information. I applaud this effort and wish other companies would follow.
(shaken with 8oz skim milk)
Mixability and texture:
Nothing to note really. Mixes perfectly in a shaker cup, or with a hand blender, never any clumping. The texture seems fluffier than other Truteins I've had in the past. It's been about a month since I had Trutein, so maybe I just don't remember it being THIS fluffy? Drinking the cinnabun, the texture going down is a medium consistency when mixed with 8-10 oz skim milk or water I would say. It's not light and silky like Dymatize, and it's not thick like XF.
Value:
My 2.5 pound tub was $24.95 for 33 servings, so roughly .75 cents per scoop.
Taste:
Greg came under fire in another thread for making a cinnabun flavored protein because "it has been done and perfected already" and his response was:
....and he was right. That was a ballsy comment to make with the XF Cinnamon Roll being such a crowd favorite but the Trutein cinnabun IS better.
From the moment you open the tub, the sweet cinnamon aroma draws you right in like a bakery. The XF Cinnamon Roll is delicious and I've gone through a number of tubs so I am familiar with the taste and flavoring. But I think the Trutein is more of a true cinnabun flavoring. You can taste the dough, you can tast the icing, you can taste the sweet sugar & cinnamon flavoring. From a taste standpoint, the XF just tastes different, the Trutein tastes a lot less buttery compared to the XF.
It's hard to believe something so tasty can actually be GOOD for you. This stuff can easily be passed off as a dessert drink, or something like that. How can a protein shake be this good?
(some cinnamon settling occurs while drinking)
Comparisons:
I think MGN makes a cinnamon flavored protein, but I've never had it, nor will I. So for the time being, let's hit the highlights of the Trutein vs. XF Cinnamon Roll because I'm sure most people will compare these two directly.
Calories per serving
Trutein: 120
XF UP 2.0: 173
Winner: Trutein.
Protein per serving
Trutein: 24g in a 34g scoop
XF UP 2.0: 18g in a 38g scoop
Winner: Trutein with 33% more protein per serving
Fat grams per serving
Trutein: 1g
XF UP 2.0: 9g
Winner: Trutein with 89% less fat than XF
Carbs per serving
Trutein: 5g
XF UP 2.0: 5g
Cost per serving
(not using BB.com prices because they are always the highest and never the lowest as the site banners say)
Trutein: 0.75/scoop
XF UP 2.0: $1.08/scoop
Winner: Trutein 33 cents (31%) cheaper per serving.
Total grams of protein per tub
Trutein: 792g (2.5 pound tub)
XF UP 2.0: 432g (2 pound tub)
Winner: Trutein
To me the winner is clear - Trutein. The taste is more realistic & the macros are significantly better. Cheaper per serving, more protein per serving, with far less fat grams.
Conclusion:
It's hard to imagine someone not liking the Trutein Cinnabun. Even if people say it tastes "as good as" the XF Cinnamon Roll the differences in macros clearly set it apart and make it the winner for me (unless you NEED the extra 8 grams of fat per serving or you don't NEED 6 grams less of protein per scoop).
Haters and fanboys will snarl their noses and make unwitty jokes as they collectively sit in their circle jerk of bros and bash TruNutrition, but the XF Cinnamon Roll has been replaced with Trutein as best cinnamon flavored protein. A superior taste & significantly better macros put the Cinnabun Trutein in a league of it's own.
My congratulations to Greg and the people at TruNutrition for a product well done!

Once again another awsome review Sloop.....with the famous cup included Thanks for takeing the time to write such a detailed review and even more glad you enjoyed the product so much. So far the feedback from bb.com members has been out of this world....with ton's of " Wow" and Def. best Cinnamon Roll out there and one " it's just ok/good but nothing special lolz which is fine since taste is subjective. I'm glad a lot of people enjoyed this product since many went off my initial feedback when I tried my sample of Cinnabun Trutein and I instantly knew It was my new fav. Trutein flavor. A+ Review

Thanks for the kind words.
Thanks man. What did you think of Golden Gains the other day?
Don't make the same mistake I did, skip the small tub and buy at least 5 pounds. Take my word for it.
This was "launched" over July 4th, and should be available on the TNS site and hopefully bb.com soon.
Assuming bb.com gets it by the end of the month, it should be available for purchase in their store by November.
Should be there today. I mailed it Friday during my lunch break. Ohio to MD shouldn't take that long.
I don't know. You'll have to pester GymRat and GregW1 to get an exact date. I think the July 4th was a preliminary launch just to get some out into the wild. I imagine TNS is fixing the labeling issue before they release the final product.

What does that have to do with anything? I have no obligation to review the cinnabun good OR bad, I don't gain anything either way. I don't know where that comment came from...?
Trutein & XF are "nothing alike?"
Both protein blends with whey & casein (Trutein with egg).
Both disclosed ratios.
Both cinnamon roll based flavors.
Both "gourmet" products compared to cheaper products from Gaspari, ON, Betancourt, etc.
Comparable similarities, no?
