I know what you're going through OP, although I didn't really know I had a problem till a long way down the track. Pretty much became a recluse for a while too scared to talk to people, would not catch up with friends and shut myself off. Not a good idea as it just worsens the problem.
Running helped me a lot, and exercise in general, breathing exercises as well as muscle relaxation techniques. I cut down my caffeine intake as well so I felt less jittery and improved my diet.
It's partly a mindset thing so you have to try to eliminate stresses and work on what's causing you to feel anxious in the first place. If it's just a general anxiety then you need to work on your mindset and care a whole lot less about what people think or what an outcome of a situation might be. I think part of the reason why we get anxious is because we're far too self conscious and give things far too much thought which don't require it.
It's hard for a lot of people to understand anxiety, I've noticed but it seems like people are getting more and more aware.

long time anxiety/depression sufferer here.
my anxiety is almost always worse in the morning right when i get up. i am almost paralyzed by the anxiety and intimidated by the day ahead of me.. sometimes to the point i cannot get out of bed or go to the bathroom to brush my teeth.
my anxiety improves as the day progresses.
by night time, i am the least anxious. it's like i am two different people, morning and night.
i feel confident at night yet when i wake up the next morning, i wish someone would blow my brains out because the anxiety is so miserable.

Thats what I'm doing now. I went to go take a final even though I was shaking, believe me I'm no pussy. I've gotten over it before, and when I looked back at myself then I thought the same thing you're saying now. However when the feeling returns I understand why it's a long process to "get over". I see your point, but it really is a real disorder. I also never take any meds for it, and don't plan on it.

Never knew what anxiety was until last year. I had been doing speed (on top of being on alcoholic) for a few days straight. Finally went to sleep and when I woke up I had a horrible panic attack that lasted the whole day. I wanted to call the hospital because I thought I was dying, but I was too ****ed to get off the floor. After that I decided to quit partying, and had to go through alcohol withdrawl which never seemed to end- daily anxiety, occasional panic attacks, and horrible nightmares every time I slept. After withdrawl I got post addiction depression, which lasted up until a few months ago. Unfortunately any time I drink I have panic attacks the next day, so its totally crippled my social life. What I've found has helped a lot is lifting, getting out of the house, 5-htp and benzodiazepams if and only if Im having a panic attack. Though I still feel as though I have problems I think my situation has greatly improved.
