    Squats and bad hips

Long story short I blew out both my hip flexors 2 years ago, and they never recovered. Now whenver I squat, I can't go anywhere near parallel or the pain is just too much (regardless of the weight). I'm using a better stretching program and it seems to be helping, as do the light hip strengthening exercises. But squatting is still painful unless I do a 3/4 rep

Would smith squats be a better alternative? Or should I just keep doing the 3/4 reps? My gym doesn't have a hack squat machine, and I don't feel the leg press is a good alternative. Any advice?

Well, I'm a newbie here, but having numerous leg issues myself I thought Id throw in my 2 cents. Smith sounds like it *could* be a solution temporarily since your hip flexors might be taken more out of the exercise as a stabilizer. Best bet is to just bite the bullet and take it slow and do some rehab for your hip flexors. Are you seeing a PT for this? They'd probably have the best advice for you.

No PT any more for it. I used to have to get ultrasound and stretching with some strengthening (3 times a week before school, just so I could practice) when I first hurt them, and as soon as the pain subsided, I blew out my knee, so my hips healed while I was out with my knee.

I'm getting PT for my shoulder right now, so I'll ask at my next appointment.
