Hey there,
So is p90x good for a cut, or would it be too extreme for me? - Or if i should follow the diets from it? My friend's dad used it, and hes' now ripped as hell- and he's middle aged. I'm unfortunately light to begin with i'm 5'8, i did a bulk from about 140-158 but i was putting on too much fat so i figured i should cut now before i try to bulk again. For the past 3 weeks or so i've been cutting about 400-500 calories from my maintenance calories, and my weight is about 153 now.
I don't really want to get my weight below 145 though i personally feel like that's really starting to get underweight. Here's a pic of me, ask if you want better ones. Body fat guesses?
Thanks
ps
i'm scared to be real skinny again like i used to be

you cant really lose too fast unless you eat like ridiculously low amounts of calories.
on p90x, faithfully, at your weight, eat about 2000 calories a day and you'll lose a pound a week.
on p90x, how much you'll PROBABLY end up doing, 1800 calories seems more reasonable.
ive said it before and ill say it again, work out smarter not harder.

ok im definitely no expert but.... p90x just sucks lol. yes i have done it it was too easy. when you first start its hard as hell but after about 4 weeks its just a joke. and tony horton is just annoying to listen to everyday! heres my advice
1. lift hard in the 5-7 rep range with failure on or before the 7th rep but do at least 5 reps. doing no more than 2 sets and also most importantly keep the ENTIRE workout 60 mins or less.
2. do cardio on a completely seperate day than lifting and do about 15 mins of hiit. hiit elevates your metabolism so you burn more calories even while resting.
3. if your looking to cut fat eat in a deficit, but, make it enough calories that your lifts dont go down if they go down your more than likely losing muscle. its really honestly is that easy. and i am a born fatty this does work. i went from 230 lbs and 30+% bodyfat to now 179 and am in a slow bulk to add more mass. also adding mass is done the exact same way. too many people try and confuse working out but it need not be confusing.
btw youve done a good job so far keep up the great job!

its actually not low carb for the first month it is...for the second month it was even carb and protein for the third month carbs take up more than half of your calories....the diet plan does suck its just not low carb
To answer the guys question:
p/c/f
month 1: 50/30/20
month 2: 40/40/20
month 3: 20/60/20
it was just what the main thought was back then i guess just use the stickies here.

I did p90x. And lol at the idiot above who says he did it and it was too easy. I call serious BS.
It is NOT easy. Most people here could NOT hang with most of the workouts and, like most, would have to modify.
Having said all of that...
I don't think that p90x is right for the OP. He's looking to add mass, and, for that, good old fashioned weight lifting is the way to go.
Starting strength, or All Pro's "simple beginner's routine" (which is stickied on the programs forum) would be a better choice.
P90x is better for someone needing to lose fat and get in shape who doesn't want to go to the gym or invest in a bunch of equipment.

I would take the p90x diet with a grain of salt.
Just read this, and look at the pic's of the OP. Is that lean enough for you?

No "diet" or macros required. Just a caloric deficit.

I lost a ton of weight eating 2800 calories doing just p90x without insanity. I realize im larger but with insanity i need atleast 3200 to maintain. I also realize you want to loose weight but at what cost muscle mass? IDTS. Start with 2600 calories if your doign a hybrid and see what happens just do it for 2 weeks see your results. P90x is good for loosing fat insanity is even better. Your doing both you can probably eat at maintenance and loose fat tbh. Start with 2600 stay for 2 weeks see what happens. My 2 cents.

I think that's about the best way I've seen anyone describe it. Also add that it's for someone who doesn't want to come up with their own workout routine.
OP - Go to YouTube and search for "P90X results" and look at the videos of people who start off with a similar body to yours. They often end up very lean and shredded but pretty much never have any bulk or mass. More like a "fitness model" type body than a "body builder" type body if you know what I mean.
I'd also 2nd the notion that the stickies here are a better guide to nutrition. The P90X guide has to be "dumbed down" so that anyone can understand and follow it - so they tell you "eat 7 portions of protein a day, eat 4 portions of carbs", etc...
