I'm going to get my lifeguard certification at a BSA summer camp.

Yes, i'm going to a boy scout summer camp. laugh all you want *******s.

How hard is it going to be? I've been told it's easy, but i really can't stand diving or going into deep water. Also, we're in a lake so it's murky as fuk. Otherwise, i wouldn't have a problem.

i got my lifesaving merit badge by completing my YMCA lifeguarding test and to be honest.. BSA certification isnt worth anything. I'm a lifeguard at my local pool, and the company i work for only accepts certification with YMCA, red cross, and occasionally Ellis. As an Eagle Scout.. I'd suggest skipping the BSA cert. It sounds cool, but YMCA is much more accepted, and if you find a cool lifesaving counselor, you can basically get your lifesaving merit badge just by completing YMCA certification.

Yeah they are basically the same, but the BSA lifeguard certification involves more swimming than the merit badge. Actually.. it involves more swimming than YMCA cerfication. If you are a good swimmer/ like swimming, I'm sure you'll be fine. I was never on swim team, nor do i even like swimming, but because I'm a decent swimmer and I'm really good at the technical parts of actually saving people, i passed my YMCA test with no problems. If you thought the merit badge was easy, then you'll have no problem getting certified.

Beach Waterfront Lifeguard at your service. If you're a decent swimmer, youll be good. If not, practice. Seriously. Practice any water skills you're not good at, peoples lives depend on it in the long run.

Thanks! I think i'm an average swimmer, definetly not best/fastest. Goin' to summercamp in about two weeks, will try to get some swim time between then.

Will i be tested on endurance or speed?

    or both?

    thanks

Depends since I don't know the testing they do. For I had to swim a 500m in under 10m for the beach, and just for the certifications i had to swim 300m (any time) and fetch a brick in deep water and swim 25m, general skills. You'll do fine!
