The same same ones that do two-armed ones: Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, Abs--and to a lesser extent, Trapezius, Rhomboids, Teres major/minor, and Infraspinatus.

Same as two arm pushups but also a lot more core and stabilizers. They can be very good for adding core strength.

What muscles do one armed push ups work?

    Yes they do!

The question is your form. This topic has been of interest to me since I'm currently on the road and have no access to a gym, and need to keep my training up anyhow.

One factor is the angle of your elbow to your body, whether your elbow is in, out or somewhere in between. Another is whether or not your feet are elevated to increase the resistance, and another is where your feet are and what they're doing. Whatever is on the underside of your body between whatever is touching the ground will be worked. If you are supporting yourself on the balls of your feet, the front of your leg will be worked along with your hip flexors and abdominals, while if you are supporting on the inside of one foot you'll work the inside of that leg (I've seen it this way). If you do it with the elbows out, you'll tend to work your core and chest more, while if you do it with the elbow in, you'll work your tricep and probably your shoulder more.

There are many, many variables in this kind of move.

How does your body hold its posture through the move, then? Does your back magically not sag without activation of hip flexors and abdominals? Do your knees stay off of the floor and ankles stay in position by virtue of The Force, or is there some lower body muscular involvement?

Go do 40 of them and tell me you feel no tension in your legs, abs or hips.

Seriously, go do some of these and get back to me. I do them all the time, I know what this move and its variants work.
