Anymore than 2 minutes and you're dogging it! Hell I can bang out 3 sets of 3 reps at 90% with 2 minutes in between them.

I agree with the bold of course, but I can think of at least 2 skinny 14-15 year olds who are squatting 300+ for reps just from SS (WannaBeTank and iLiftNoodBrah)

I don't think that a 300 squat is something incredibly difficult to achieve for most people...

I am a fat gym rat with powerlifter tendencies. I benched 3 sets of 15 with a light weight a few days ago and I almost died from cardiac arrest.

    Make me.

I actually did lose about 10 lbs in the last 3-4 weeks, I was on vacation and did not eat or lift at all. Doesn't change the fact that my conditioning/endurance is horrible, I have spent about 95% of my training life doing 1-5 reps.

It can be done. Starr's point was that there is no magic program. The program doesn't just stop working and turn to crap. Something changed. It was your body.

On ss, rest as long as wanted. The whole point is to keep getting all the reps so the weight can be increased. It's not a bodybuilding program, if an extra 2 minutes of rest will help get that last rep, it should be taken. Of course, squatting 135 for 5 one wouldnt need 10 min rests.

And about the example of program from 250 bench to 300, its very feasible to squat 300 on ss because the squat is the main focus. It will take much more complicated programming to bench 300 than to squat it. Bench progresses much slower.

If you can bench your 5-rep max for 3 sets, it's not your 5-rep max.

A "max" should feel so incredibly hard that it's nearly impossible to complete the rep/set, and you can barely walk afterward, much less repeat the effort...

Is a program like this decent enough to do 3x a week whilst on a cut? Or would it lead to a lot of stalling with the weight increases.

I was thinking the same thing. Also when you do front squats, should you increase the weight for back squats by 10 the next workout?

Caused babylover to miss important comments and people could get more info about this routine, but people had to get off topic.

But read the post anyway, good stuff.
Not necessarily stupid. It's not like Rippetoe has coached every single top powerlifter, he is not a top powerlifter and top powerlifters do not necessarily follow his programme. Therefore his results are not as good as some, and there are other and potentially better ways to achieve success in a results based sport.

Fuzzy's post needs to be taken in context!! Obviously, you can get strong on this programme. Obviously, the programme has holes and flaws.

This. Especially if they just tell you to go on some weightloss programme or take certain pills. Doctors who smoke piss me off, personal trainers who are fat (unless like, heavy weight powerlifters or w/e) piss me off, teachers who aren't smart/willing to learn/aren't good role models piss me off. Not that this is really that relevant to the OP lol.
