Its discussed in the literature. U gotta remember the cold war, lol. The training of the "superior" soviet man was contrasted with the vain physique stars of the west. The soviets studied Strength and Health magazine and some jabs were taken back and forth.
The training of bodybuilders is discussed in the Russian manuals where it is explained that training for the harmonious development of all muscle groups is not the same as training for high sporting results in weightifting"Humility comes before honor"

I was thinking of the current recommendations by US strength (Rippetoe, Poliquin) and PL (Simmons) gurus.
Maybe the Russian Oly coaches were making recommendations 30 years ago, but currently there are a lot more non-weightlifers and non-weightlifting coaches making broad recommendations for weightlifters than there are weightlifters making recommendations for (or caring about) other sports.
At least from what I see on the intarwebz

I agree with you for the most part. Of course variety is not the topic. Rip is basically making an all or nothing statement about the PL squat. If a person wants to add it for a bit of variety on occasion, then that is totally up them. If a person thinks that using Pl squat to the exclusion of the olympic squat is superior, then they are stupid. Certainly people go too far in specificity and motor patterns. However in the big picture you need to be developing the proper muscles in the proper manner.
While I cited Charniga and think he has good articles, I do have some disagreements. For instance I think it is absurd that anyone would try to avoid how obvious it is that the high bar back squat is the best predictor of what a lifter can (or could) do."However, the strength of the hamstring muscles is crucial to fully exploit the strength potential of the quads and ultimately the vertical force that the athlete is able to impart to the barbell." - Andrew Charniga, Jr.

you gotta realize that people have vested interests, lol. Some people make a living training in this style or that. Everyone has their turf and reputation to defend.
Each strength discipline considers itself the best and calls it top guy "The strongest man in the world"
But yeah, I agree in a sense it is silly for U.S. coaches to make too much noise about how theyd train oly athletes etc. I am sure that there would be decent $$$ available to a U.S. coach who could bring back a weightlifting olympic or world chmpshp medal
Also, most of us dont read Russian or German etc so we have no clue what the Oly coaches may or may not currently say. The U.S. guys u listed make good $$$ so of course they are going to be vocal.
There was a lot of interplay back in the day with Bob Hoffman. Im surprised the KGB didnt put out a hit on him, hehe.
Currently, any casual listen to ironmind tapes or oly broadcasts can find Randall Strossen downtalking powerlifters, making fun of the equipment or whatever"Humility comes before honor"

There could (should) be a lot more interplay and exchange nowadays between the various strength sports. The world is a lot smaller now and info flows instantaneously
With the russians and others getting into powerlifting we can see what those eastern methods look like applied to powerlifting. We already have the sheiko stuff as a small taste of the russian methods
then u have WSM competitions with athletes from various countries interacting
Now if Russia or China would take up American football we'd have some REAL action, lol"Humility comes before honor"
