    I once read an article on "negative cal food". They stated that to get close to a negative affect the amount of said food ingested would have to be unrealistically large. I never bout it though. 1 apple or 20 apples, just because it's 20x the volume shouldn't make a difference. It's 20x the calories. Any other perspective on this...?

    Note, if it's something you'd find on a pro-ana site, it's probably not worth believing. The only place I ever read about 'negative calories' was on a pro-ana forum when I was a teen. >_>;

    Its not about weather they have calories in them its about weather the thermogenic effect of feeding or the expenditure of calories to break down and digest the food is greater than the calorie content of the food itself. Several vegetables and some fruits supposedly take more calories to digest with their high fiber content than you actually get from them. Not sure about apples tho.....

    EAT BIG! LIFT HEAVY! WTF OP!?!??!

    You are going to waste the best mass building part of your life if you keep doing this. I strongly urge you to reconsider your goals. You don't want to be sitting where I am @ 25 trying to gain mass/cut/gain mass/cut/gain mass/cut and still be 170 lbs.

    I was thinking about this yesterday. You know what all the big dudes like Manu tell people on here all the time....EAT BIG TO GET BIG.

    It's like every single young guy comes on here, obsesses over their body fat level, tries to reach low levels like they see the folks around here who compete do, but they don't have the foundation to support it.

    Eat now, lift heavy, cut later. Or, just give me your hormones since they are being wasted on you anyway.

    no, even celery has been shown not to be a negative calorie food
    all food info labels have already taken into account the digestive and absorptive energy related to the serving sizes
    found that out just recently too
    and i was really holding onto that broscience lol
    on the bright side, youre talking about a few calories which you could easily cancel out by going for a quick walk

    Thank you...

    I think extreme calorie counting and weighing food is sorta stupid, for the reason stated above, and more.

    I really don't think that by burning food in a calorimeter and measuring the heat, you can really get a very accurate analysis of how much energy it will take your body to burn. Also, what about the digestion process when fiber shuttles fats through, or when fats are burned incompletely, and the ketones leave the body. What then... Does fat only yield 6-8 calories? Too many things to consider to be very accurate.

    I spun my wheels for decades....until I started counting calories and weighing/measuring what I ate. In my view it's better to be close, than have no freakin' clue how much I'm eating.
