I started reading the books in 1996. I refused to watch the show and then became super pissed when GRRM let the show pass the books. So decided to binge watch the show with the wife. Love the show its amazing. All that being said, I am so invested in teh books after 2 decades its like I don't even mind reading spoilers, if that makes any sense. Like I don't care about ruining the show slightly because my main motivation to even watching the show is to see how the story ends anyway.

This thread doesn't see much action any more but god damnit this season has been a bummer so far. Maybe my expectations are too high but i feel like everything is just getting rushed. There are only 4 episodes left? And i feel like a lot is going to have to happen to make the season not be a total disappointment.

Ollena drinking the poison then confessing to Jaime was amazing. Really enjoyed this last episode.

Is it ok to discuss the leaked episode in this thread since it's the spoiler thread?
Perhaps a mod can chime in?

Just started reading (listening with audible) A knight of the Seven Kingdoms (Duck & Egg) and am digging it so far. I always wondered how the Song of Ice & Fire wiki had so much history on characters that weren't really mention a lot in the books.
Maybe one day this thread will be alive again.LOL @ people who follow politics

If Winds of Winter ever comes to us brah
Wonder how close it'll come to some of HP's records
Anyone else sort of feel for D&D - GRRM has been incapable of finding a way to continue this series for the last six years, these guys have a few months each year to try and sort out all the storylines, something GRRM himself can't do. With the show having become so popular they just have no chance to appease everyone as the spectrum of watchers is just so broad.
I wonder how much input GRRM has in the show still - since saying he's only really concentrating on his books and not writing for the show anymore1977

Posting in here as main thread is a bit all over the place and mainly full of whiny mugs
Really enjoyed the episode - disappointed it wasn't as good as ep 9 or 10 from last season, but was still enjoyable
I'm glad Sansa/Arya didn't go the stupid route, but I can't help but feel their earlier scenes this season were even more contrived after watching the behind the episode segment. The whole making a rift between the two so when Sansa brigs Arya into the room we think she might actually sentence her - did anyone actually believe that?
The meeting sort of went like I expected. There were so many meetings of characters that hadn't seen each other in years show wise. I'm glad they tried to address as many of them as possible (I like the Brienne and Hound scene, looking forward to the Hound seeing Arya again, assuming he's going back with Jon to Winterfell). Funny that the people calling the reunions fan service would probably be the first ones to complain about how people not acknowledging each other is bad writing and moving away from what the show used to be - no pleasing some.
Jon was an idiot for saying he had already bent the knee but Cersei was always going to betray them anyway (Euron had already left by this point) so in the grand scheme of things irrelevant (though it got Dany even wetter for him)
Them cutting the Tyrion/Cersei scene short and Cersei doing a 180 does leave you wondering - it could be something as simple as Tyrion knows his sister loves her children more than anything so believes her when she gives in or he has schemed something so his House don;t go into complete ruin
Glad Jaime finally turned away from Cersei - assuming he's going north on his own now or do the Lannister men follow him? Either way he'll tell the others about her betrayal, and Theon would probably find out Euron has left for Essos and find out as well.
I do find it funny I'm seeing some people are calling the show predictable just because stuff it took book readers years to figure out is coming to fruition, whereas they just got into the show late and read all the theories offhand so think it was all so obvious from the start. I don't get why people don't understand we're at the point, 70 hours later, where expendable characters have died and everyone left has some kind of purpose/arc to fill before dying now. You can't kill off main characters now and expand the new ones like you could 2/3 seasons into the show, where most of the story was still waiting to be told.
Anyway buzzing for next season - Jon arriving in Winterfell will lead to some cool moments.
- Dany meeting Ghost and Sansa/Arya (hopefully)
- Jon and Arya reunion
- Jon finding out his parentage. Don't think Daenerys will care too much about the incest part (I remember back in season 1 she was saying she grew up always thinking she'd marry one of her brothers sons lmao), and even the righful ruler part as shell know Jon doesn't give a chit about it, and their probs inevitable kid would be the heir
- assuming Tormund has run cross the top of the wall will he get to where the guy Jon left in charge is?
Such a long wait though
With what's happening in the show and everything they have to miss out, the books will be so different even though they'll most likely end up at the same plot points. Looking forward to seeing if GRRM manages to clear up what he has created1977

Only three episodes left and I think I've given up hope that we'll get a nice conclusion to this despite my optimism for a long time. I wonder how much of an ending GRRM actually gave them - because from what we've seen in S7 and this season so far I just can't imagine he would give something so mundane and lacking excitement/thought.
I gave D&D the benefit of doubt for a long time but now that I realise we only have three episodes left I feel like that was pointless because I currently feel like we're going to get the most cookie-cutter ending. I'm annoyed about how underwhelming I found that episode and how many stupid things occurred. GRRM is an absolute rat for abandoning this story and giving people what looks like a mediocre ending to remember. I gave them the benefit of the doubt in S7 because S6 for me had some of the strongest episodes of the show, with Hold the Door, Battle of the Bastards and Winds of Winter, and the plot points were still there for them to recover in the final season. But 3 episodes into the last fukin season and we have got nowhere near that quality.
I really thought this would be THAT episode with all the hype it was getting - yes it looked good and the soundtrack was banging but the writing and storytelling just so poor. I always acknowledged they wouldn't be able to please everyone due to how big the show has got but even then, I can usually take my book hat off and enjoy the episode as just a medium of TV, but even then I found this episode lacking.
Can't believe this is probably the only conclusion we'll ever get to some of the best fantasy books of all time. Mess. How do they salvage it1977

It’s kind of beyond salvaging. This is my post from the show thread:
So let me get this straight...
They spend 8 seasons hinting at the fact the Mad King stashed wildfire all over Kings Landing and he kept repeating “burn them all” even as he was dying, SUSPICIOUSLY SIMILAR to the way Wylas became Hodor after Bran tried to warg into him in the past...and they’re just gonna let the entire army of the dead get destroyed without ever getting close to Kings Landing?
It’s set up perfectly for Bran to warg into the Mad King in the past and cause him to stash wildfire everywhere specifically to kill the army of the dead when they get to Kings Landing 20 years later, but also inadvertently cause him to go mad and indirectly lead to the death of Richard and Brandon Stark, and from there to Robert’s Rebellion.
They’ve shown that Bran can alter the past. This would be the perfect use of that plot device. But instead the only thing that actually happens is...Bran creates Hodor? He doesn’t actually do anything of real significance?
And all of this just so Arya can be a fuking ninja since she inexplicably learned so much from the Faceless Men before she LEFT WITHOUT EVEN COMPLETING HER TRAINING. Seriously, they taught her how to lie and...what else exactly? When did she learn to sword fight so well she could take on Brienne?
Way to go, D&D. What fantastic writing.
This is worse than when they perfectly set up Selyse to burn her daughter Shireen and then be executed by Stannis for it but then retconned it all just to have Stannis go against everything we’d seen so far to sacrifice Shireen himself, then have Selyse kill herself.
Yes mad
At this point they’re just thinking, “Hey, Ned’s death and the Red Wedding were unexpected and people liked that, so let’s do unexpected stuff!” And then we get this retarded sht like Arya jumping out of nowhere like Michael fuking Jordan to stab the Night King
And relief washes over me in an awesome wave

Yeah agree mate. I don't even know why I was giving them the benefit of the doubt.
It's funny to read my post above from when S7 ended
These are genuinely some of my favourites books of all time and the show was also one of my favourites - it's so disappointing that it's going to end like this1977

The Long Night was the most disappointing part for me. I know the show took liberties but it doesn't go past Winterfall and lasts one night.

Game over boyos. This season was so much worse than I would have ever imagined
If you had told me a few years ago that all these characters we've been following (and reading about) for years and the story that has had me hooked for more than a decade would have an ending that evoked literally zero feels other than hatred at the writers I would not have believed you. I cannot believe how badly it has all ended.
The sad thing is GRRM is never going to finish the books either so this is the best we'll ever get. Pathetic all around.
Edit: I also hope the Star Wars films they were so desperate to ditch GoT for are absolute chite and get critically panned.Last edited by NasStan; 05-20-2019 at 01:46 PM.
