OK here's my thoughts, I'm writing in white in this post but won't afterwards:
Disappointed with the book overall... I'm glad I'm a recent fan of the series and didn't have to wait 5 years for this tripe. How many of you think Jon is actually dead? IMO Mel might have saved him, but I really think he's dead; or will die eventually. If not he'll probably inhabit Ghost for a bit I would assume, before he fades away from the animal.
Dany: I'm the Mother of Dragons, but I'm too busy swooning over some dude with a blue goatee to train my dragons, so I'm just gonna lock them up in a basement and ignore them! Then after the big, black one returns and ****s up everyone's ****, I'm going to ride off into the sunset and take a vacation walking though a very expansive, unmowed lawn, so I can spend more valuable time swooning over that dude with the blue goatee (because it's very important to the plot that I do this).
Robb: I'm going to go to a wedding with a bunch of *******s who hate me and ignore my giant, overprotective, awesome direwolf and lock it up somewhere very far from where I'm about to be murdered, even though I've been warned several times to avoid doing that exact ****ing thing.
Jon: I, too, am going to lock up and ignore my awesome pet against the advice of a prophetic priest who said to avoid doing that exact ****ing thing, because that's what everyone else has been doing, and, so far, I think it's worked out very well for other characters.
Conclusion: GRRM pls go.

Just finished Storm of Swords. Catelyn being mangled but alive...my mind is full of fukk.
Looking at the chapters for Feast for Crows, it's all people I don't care too much about w/ the exception of Arya. Is it worth reading or can I wiki that bad boy and skip to the next book? Cuz I'll be damned if I read a Cersei chapter. Yes, mad.Randomly Reps Positive Posts Crew

Also, wtf at Bran's storyline. I thought he'd do something kick ass, but all he does is become part of a tree. Woopty doo. Rickon is the only hope.

The part where Mel looks for Stannis in her fires and sees Jon Snow instead was pretty lulzy. Strong static on the line, it took me some time to grasp it was actually supposed to be SNOW, not Jon Snow.

The way he wrote it is that Feat for Crows is from the perspective of a few select characters: Brienne, Cersei, Arya, Sansa, and the girl from Dorne who I can't remember. I found most of the chapters on Cersei and the Dorne girl to be pretty boring, but the rest of it is good.
The next book will be about the other characters. Up to you whether you want to wiki it.

I disagree; there was some action in this book (not nearly as much as I'd like), but still more than AFFC. Also, I am really thrilled about the 'new' character that was revealed. I won't discuss it in detail yet to give others time to read because it is a pretty big deal. (Assuming he/she really is who he/she says he/she is... I was lurking the Westeros forum and some people suspect he/she might be a fake.)
Right now I'd rank the books...
1. Storm of Swords
2. Game of Thrones
3. Clash of Kings
4. A Dance with Dragons
5. A Feast for Crows
^ 2 and 3 were really a toss up I'd say they're really equal but I gave GoT a slight edge because it was the first book and it drew me into the series.

Tomorrow marks one week since the book was released. I'm sure most of the real die hard fans are already finished with it. I say midnight tonight this thread is totally open to spoilers from ADWD.

OK so here's my brief take on ADWD... there are spoilers so if you haven't finished it yet beware...
When I put down the book I felt like I wasted 1000 pages of reading for maybe 100 pages that I actually enjoyed. What even actually "happened" in this book? Jon hangs out at the wall with Stannis and Mel and broods over their food storage. Dany does nothing but whine and complain then when things get tough she hops on Drogon and flies out to the middle of nowhere to relax. Tyrion meets a lady dwarf and hangs out with her. Oh and by the way that Aegon Targaryen dude isn't dead he's actually sailing to Westeros with Rhaegar's best friend and an army to retake the Iron Throne. Jon gets stabbed and his fate is ambiguous. The end.
I feel like the entire book could have been written in one page not 1000. Where was the action? Why is Dany stll in the East? Why haven't the Others attacked? How the hell is GRRM going to fit all the stuff that's 'supposed' to happen into the next two books? I just don't see how it's possible. I am just very frustrated about how GRRM has failed to deliver on 'main events' in this book. The first three books had more excitement in one chapter than this book had in its entirety. I don't just mean physical fights or battles, but intrigue as well. If it wasn't for the appearance of Aegon literally nothing of any excitement would have happened in the entire book.
How it took GRRM years to write this book is beyond me. Will I read the next one when it comes out? I'm sure I will, but I don't think I'll be very excited about it. I went out and bought ADWD the morning it was released because I was convinced that AFFC was just a fluke and that this book would make up for it in action and it sorely disappointed.

^ This. I am really sick of hearing descriptions of Aegon the Unworthy's cook's best friend's uncle's cousin in law's friend who was an squire for Ser Whogives Afawk 600 years ago. I like when there is background it gives more depth to the story but this was ridiculous.
Also, how many times did we have to read "You know nothing Jon Snow." Seriously every other paragraph of his chapters had that quote, we get it GRRM.

what i'm wondering about is.. when he said he was almost finished with this book a few years back, did he have all of the main story down and then feel the need to spend a few more years adding this filler crap, or was it the other way around?
it's also lulzy how he always talks about having to almost split books up, when he actually needs to condense them.Lifts:

There's no proof Stannis is dead. Ramsay is a known liar.

If Winds of Winter is the same crap then I won't even bother with the 7th. Danaerys, her dragons, and the Dothraki better wipe Slaver's Bay off the map, Aegon better win Dorne and march on KL, the Others better attack, Arya better become a badass assassin and start hunting down her list, and Bran better amass a warg army for him to control or it will be a disappointment.Strive for

I'm on the same page as you Shangius.
A few thoughts I had....
1. I bet the new Kingsguard Knight who never takes off his armor is the severely scarred Knight of the Flowers. He's probably trying to get close to the major players so he can avenge Renly somehow.
2. Where the hell is Benjen Stark?! I was so convinced Bran would find him past the wall but so far that isn't true.
3. I have a hunch Sansa will end up marrying Aegon if Aegon succeeds in taking back the throne. My reasons are as follows. Varys seems to be behind Aegon's whole life. Varys knows that for the plan to work long term Aegon will need a wife to continue the line. Now if Aegon marries into any of the other houses things in Kings Landing will be just as political as they are now because the other houses are largely scumbags. Varys knew that Ned Stark was a good guy, it seems Varys was the one who came up with the idea of Ned taking the black. Also there was all that talk about Sansa being rescued by a true knight and about her becoming a queen. Maybe she won't be Joffrey's queen but rather Aegon's. I still am not sure how Littlefinger plays into it but that's my theory so far.

1. Sansa is already married
2. She's missing to everyone in the realm of importance other than Littlefinger who seemingly wants her close to him at the Vale.
For her to come into play, her new husband would have to be okay with her lying and than leaving the Vale as well as Aegon wanting to marry her over a plethora of other worthy suitors. (Danaerys, Doran Martel's Daughter, Asha Greyjoy, etc,.) Sansa makes sense because Danaerys and Dorne would most likely be on his side in any case and the North is still powerful but in addition he would also need the Boltons to become a non-factor.
I'm not saying it's not possible it just seems like a lot would have to happen.
And I agree with Shanigus, Mereen is such a phucking annoyingly pointless part of the plot.
Also what do you guys think is gonna happen with Victarian. He sounds perfect for her, she clearly likes the bad ass alpha male characters and he also has an incredibly powerful fleet.Tom Brady wishes he was half as talented and a quarter as good looking as Aaron Rodgers.

The Victarian chapters were probably the few enjoyable points in the book. He's such a badass it's hard not to like him. I doubt he'll be one of the 3 heads of the dragon since he has no Targaryen connection. But I could easily see him becoming Dany's admiral since her last one was murdered by the Yunkai.

Sorry brah but I think you are pretty far off the mark on all 3 of those.
1. The new knight is the creation Maester Qyburn made from dead Gregor. The reason he never takes off his helm is that he has no head. The reason he doesn't eat or anything is that he is ****in dead. Not to mention he is 8 ft tall and massive while Loras is a scrawny little *******.
2. Seemed pretty obvious that Coldhands is probably Benjen.
3. There is no way Aegon would marry Sansa. First of all, the Starks and Targs are longtime enemies. Sansa's own father helped defeat his father and family and "usurp" the throne. Also, there is no way Littlefinger would allow it to happen as he is weirdly in love with her and too proud. On top of that, there are so many better matches for him and the Stark boys are alive so it wouldn't even give him a claim to the North."Today I have given everything I have. Everything I have kept I have lost forever."

Pretty sure Jon and Bran are the other 2 heads of the dragon.
Bran being The Last Hero and Jon being Azhor Ahai. Dany is The Prince Who Was Promised.
Mel will undead Jon obv.
Pretty sure Arya will be hired to kill Tommen/Cersei on behalf of the Iron Bank. Some of this seems likely from the events in the main chapters. Some of it is foreshadowed in the epilogue.

Not sure about Jon and Bran. Victarion might get one with his horn. Also some speculation that Tyrion might ride one.
Agree on Mel thing, but probably not actually making him an "undead" or whatever.
The faceless men can't kill people they know. That's why there is the scene where they group up and say:
"I know this man"
"I too know this man"
"I do not know this man, I will give him the gift"
Was pissed that Jaime got one ****in chapter. And a useless cliffhanger and ****ty reveal one at that."Today I have given everything I have. Everything I have kept I have lost forever."

If Aegon marries anyone it will either be Dany or Arianne Martell. That's providing he isn't a fake and actually survives taking Storm's End.
A few interesting theories on other boards is that Stannis is alive and will eventually become 1000th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch after Jon's successor. The theories that point to this are his ambiguous "death", Melisandre seeing Jon in the fires meaning he is actually Azor Azhai and not Stannis, and the fact Stannis once said of the Others, "This is the enemy I was born to fight."
Thus meaning Jon is the Prince Who Was Promised and he survives his assassination. I think he will somehow find Blackfyre (the lost sword of Aegon the Conqueror) and he will temper it in Dany's heart (making her the modern Nissa Nissa) thus creating the true Lightbringer sword. Then Jon fights all the Others with Dragons and a magical weapon. Hooray.
Also another theory is the guy who snuck into the Citadel (J'aqen supposedly) is searching for the Horn of Joramund and trying to blow it to bring down the Wall. This will probably happen at the end of Winds of Winter.Strive for

It was Jaqen in the Citadel. He's my favourite character.
I don't think Aegon will survive. I don't even fully believe Aegon is Aegon.
As I remember, Arya still says her prayer. If she is asked to kill Tommen/Cersei, I think she will lie and say she doesn't know either. It doesn't seem a stretch. It's difficult to see how Arya ties in if something like that doesn't happen.
I think Jon will be undead the way Beric Dondarrion was undead. Not like Cat. Jon may not even have died.
It's impossible to say what will happen to Jaime. He's one of my favourites, but he could be killed off. I had hoped he'd be the one to kill Cersei, but it's hard to imagine how.
I'm a bit fed up with GRRM btw."If you can read this and still disagree, fantastic; just realize that you’re wrong." - Lyle McDonald

Why are people saying Dany is going to marry anyone? She's barren, she t'aint gonna sit the freaking iron throne, unless the "new" targeryn reign is also going to be the last one. She's served her purpose in breeding dragons, now there's really nothing she can do, other than sling her loose vagina around for power like she has been doing, in ways that nearly rival Cersei.
