Anyone NOT know what they wanna do in life? (srs) (11k)

    Sup misc?
I know a lot of you have known what you wanted to be all your life, but for those of us a little older, do any of you still not know?

I would love some insight on this, cause I'm over 25 and have no clue, STILL.

All I ever wanted to be growing up was a rock-star. Completely non-feasible career choice.

I've bounced from job to job for the past 10 years or so, nothing rewarding, or that I could even picture myself doing for 20 years.

I've done culinary, automotive (detail, collision repair, sales and leasing), retail, gyms, construction, a brief stint in real estate, call centers, driver jobs... basically any and every non-degree requiring position you can think of, I've probably done and left because I didn't see a future in it.

I'm going to school for business, probably something in finance or econ. My real passion is psychology. I love everything about it, do relationship and confidence counseling, and would love to explore how the mind works and what it's capable of. Problem is, liberal arts majors seem oversaturated and like they're a waste of $50k to get my PhD.
I'm strongly considering a double major, since business is another interest of mine and more feasible career opportunities.

My interests seem to change a lot, and I have no fukking clue what I want to be, even though I'm already grown up.

Anyone in the same boat? Any advice? Especially from older misc?

I know this is a fuking novel, but I'll rep on re for good answers.
    Thanks for your input.

Everyone and their mother has a degree in psychology, and on top of that there aren't many jobs in the field. You could just be a cop for like 20 years, retire, and collect pension while getting another low maint. job.

My advice to you would be to just talk to people. At the gym, friend's family members, people you randomly run into waiting for the bus or something. There are a lot of things you can do that you dont even know about. Like for me i got my degree in accounting thinking it was where i wanted to go but wasn't really too sure exactly where. Was just randomly talking to this army guy who pretty much explained exactly the field i wanted to go into and I had no idea it even existed. Applying to grad school now to get a masters in that field of work.
hard to hate on a fellow wings fan but....

edit: Go to school for Business Admin and minor in human resources. Get an HR job post college. Psychological enjoyment comes from the hiring process and learning how to judge character. You should enjoy it...far more feasible than being a psychologist.

    THIS x 10000000000000

People with a passion for working are "lucky." I think you can learn to enjoy it, but it comes much easier for some people than it does for others (myself included).

I make 100k+ a year doing IT but I still don't know what I want to do in life. Let me explain. The things I love to do doesn't pay squat. IT is something I know and good at. It pays the bills, but I don't love it. In the end, career wise, you do what you're good at and not what you love. It's rarely that people get to do what they love and good at that pays well. Those are the fortunate few.

Asides from career, I really don't know what my future will be. I haven't found the girl of my dream nor do I know when I'll get married if ever. I went through a long period of time soul searching and looking for the meaning of life. Thought about life and death, even suicide. My conclusion is that there's really now definite meaning to life. You should make your own meaning and find what makes you happy.

I think the first thing you should do is not focus on your age so much, and say I wish I had X figured out by XXXX date, its true you can wait too long, in your 20's is not a dire situation yet.

It took me until I was 23 to have a good understanding of what I wanted to do, and I mostly came to a realization through just working **** jobs that have no future or working jobs I had no passion for.

Try to determine what you think you can be:
    -Successful at
    -Enjoy
    -Stimulate interests

Maybe construct a list of relevant interests and apply them to a field of work
-Then research that field and see if its something you might be able to do(and enjoy)

In my case, I found myself loving physics which lead me towards engineering.

    Hope it helps a bit

Feel/felt the same way. Never felt that passion for anything like everyone else use to. I just had to go through tons of life experiences and try many different things. Sadly what I want to do now might be beyond my reach.

Just think about all the things you would do for free. Think about what you would learn about because you actually care/want to know about it. You ever get that moment where you think back to HS and remember how you never wanted to learn about anything? And then you catch yourself hungry for information on a certain topic? That's how I figured it out. That kept happening to me and I found myself trying to learn about stuff related to it all the time. It wasn't obvious to me before but I suggest just thinking about what have you tried to learn about often in your free time? What truly catches your interest?

If all that still leads to psychology then I suggest thinking broader about that. You don't have to be just a psychologist. Thats not the only way to delve into that interest. I know its kinda out there, but have you thought about Human Resources? Its a generic mix of business and psychology as at times you will deal with peoples problems. Just an example of how to broaden your search. Don't think of only one job as a possibility for your interest.
No one is the reason of your happiness except yourself.

Tell me about it. I've been poor my whole life though, and my parents have both worked the same job for 25+ years and never went anywhere. Both still live in extreme poverty.

The idea of working that long and still being piss poor with nothing to show for it is the same to me as saying "fukk it i give up on life"

exactly! And the scariest thing of all is picking the WRONG one, and realizing you hate it!
I got my degree in collision repair and refinish.
1 year in I realized top shop owners were pulling like $35k/yr if they were lucky
I sold all my tools, paid off my loans, and never looked back.

I can't make that mistake again at 28 yanno?

Yea. Believe me, I hear you. I'm old as sht and I got some cool stories, and I can help guys get laid, but I don't wanna be the next PUA or any bullsht like that. I like helping, and have been getting into affiliate marketing with my website... but it's nowhere near livable income.

feels like I'm running out (or already have) of time.

I know. It makes it out to be a joke major, which sucks for those who are passionate about it. I know so many people with a BS in psych that work retail lol.

    yeah man no clue.
I tried joining the navy and army. Both declined me due to my criminal record from when I was FIFTEEN.

Im in the same boat. I've been in college since i was 17 (graduated highschool early) and now im 23 and still in college. I've changed my major about 4 times from buisness managment, to criminal justice, to finance, and now i'm an econ major. I still don't know why i picked this major, why im doing it, or even what i'm going to do with it.
