that is why you wont be able to tame him, you can easily withstrain a dog, just use enough force to do so and dont over do it, hold his mouth shut with one hand and yell "NO" and "BAD"while hes pinned and hell know the meaning of the words sooner or later

Get rid of him then (srs), you're really playing with fire. You could be doing something mundane as changing his water, but if he doesn't like you interfering with "HIS" water bowl, good night sweet prince.

this dog should go to an owner with experience. Not a new one. Why didn't you just get a puppy or a dog with no record of aggression.

Ugh. I'm just going to hope you're a troll, because if you seriously adopted an aggressive German shepherd with no previous knowledge of how to deal with difficult dogs, and you're asking the Misc section of bodybuilding.com for dog training advice, then the best thing you can do for that dog is not be its owner.

Aggressive dogs need real, confident, intelligent leaders. They don't need idiots who think that a GSD will make them look "alpha."

If you are afraid of your dog, you've lost the battle dude. Srs.

Dogs sense your fear and apprehension.

You should get him some professional training.

He's a working dog, you gotta give him a job to do of some kind/mental challenge.

Exercise him 2x a day at least.

If biting is a problem, muzzle him up til he learns respect so you can train with out getting all bloody.

    Good luck bro.

You adopted a large, aggressive dog without having any experience dealing with large aggressive dogs? WTF did you do that for?

It is NOT easy to rehab a troubled dog. It is borderline impossible if you don't know what you're doing. My advice would be to talk to some professionals, instead of asking the misc. The misc will tell you to smack the dog if it tries to bite you or some dumb **** like that.

Do you at least know how to defend yourself against a dog if it does try to kill you? If you don't, and it tries to kill you, curl into a ball, make whimpering noises and piss yourself. Not joking. You're better off doing that than anything someone could try to tell you over the internet.

You're an idiot, stop being a pussy. You are significantly heavier, with hands and opposable thumbs. Grab its mouth shut, pin it to the floor and hold it their to assert you authority. Jesus christ just man the **** up, or give the dog to someone who can handle it, who has experience. If you do nothing, it will only bite you more in the future, and it will be dangerous. Wrong? I have actual experience establishing dominance with a difficult dog.

OP - if you really insist on keeping this dog, then you should at least ****ing know that there are several non-life-threatening ways that you can control a large dog. Confinement in a crate, pinch collars, muzzles, short leashes.

If your dog is not quiet, respectful and obedient, then your dog does not deserve freedom and he should be confined or under your direct supervision without exception at all times. Why, you ask? That's not fair! It's a free country!

A dog who already has aggression problems (indicating that he thinks he's the boss and he decides how the house is run) will only develop stronger bad habits if given free rein. He will attack guests who enter your house because he considers them strangers trespassing on his turf. He will attack you for getting too close to his toys, bed, food, and water. He will steal food off your tables and countertops. He will harass, chase, and/or kill other animals around the neighborhood. He will eventually be taken away and euthanized when your failure to control your dog causes permanent, irreversible damage to another person or their property.

If someone has never dealt with a large, aggressive dog before this is terrible advice. It isn't that simple. A human that knows what they're doing can always get a leverage advantage over a canine, but it isn't quite as simple as "grab and wrestle"

If you're honestly scared of the dog, you should give him back. It'd be better for him too.

Then there is only one thing for you to: Return the dog to the breeder. Tell him that you weren't prepared to raise this dog and apologize for wasting his time.

This **** is serious. A powerful, intelligent, curious dog without any training or discipline is very dangerous. You don't want to be responsible for the kind of damage this dog can do - and you also don't want to be on the receiving end of that damage.

ETA: Let me tell you what happens when you lower your head to bite the neck of an aggressive, angry dog. He'll turn his head and take your ****ing ear off. Just in case someone on this thread convinced you that biting your dog was an effective dominance strategy.

You have to be the dominant force in the home. If you can't manage it, return him.

    Best advice in this thread.

You could make this dog's problems WORSE trying to "fix" things and not knowing what you're doing OP.

    Tempted to neg.

OP is a phag who prob wants the dog to look "alpha" in front of everyone, even though he prob cant control it.

Ppl like you that give the breed a bad rep.

You clearly cant control it yet seem content in keeping it. Give it a years time, it will attack someone as you cant control it, then it will be have to put to sleep...

    Bravo dingbat

you have to get him under control immediately, or it will be to far gone and you will have to put him down. hes only 80 pounds you can control him, yes dogs are powerful and he could **** you up. do some research on some obidience training, he thinks hes the boss and you have to teach him hes not, if he nips or bites at you dont be afraid to bite that ****er back right on the ear (dead srs one of the best dominance techniques just make sure you dont bite the ****ing ear off and you have him controlled because he wont like it) but he will learn but get on it asap

Holy ****ing ****, did I not just go over this?

You have a dog who already exhibits violent tendencies. You attempt to pin him down after he does something you don't like. This makes him angry. You put your face close to his head. The party that's in danger of losing an ear is YOU, not the dog. Biting the ear works well on small puppies.
