So there are protein and fat minimums to reach, but no limit on anything after those minimums are reached?

As with those minimums, they are based on bodyweight of the individual, correct?

IMO, carb intake is important, and like said numerous time before, is dependant on ones goals, activity level, and type of training. I think carb intake is of more importance to endurance athletes and those with high volume training. I do agree that it should be outlined in the OP though.
Oh, btw, there is a reason I don't give up......when something has a flaw, and many many people are reading it and following it, that flaw should be fixed.

You know what other group of people don't give up? Champions.

    Thanks for acknowledging my point.

Maybe because IIFYM is also individualized, not some crappy cookie cutter diet plan that is similar to the one you offer.

Carbs are not as important as fats and protein because they are not essential which is why no minimums are set. If you were to eat almost zero carbs you would not die because of it. and yes they are based on your lbm and after those are reached you can have your preferred mixture of fats, carbs, or protein. Most people tend to make up the rest of their calories with mainly carbs. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpo...3&postcount=35

    Cbus,

All I see is insult after insult. Why not speak like a mature adult and offer something worthwhile to the discussion? Others are doing so.

I say ditch the grudge and speak like an adult or just pass on contributing altogether.

    Just a thought though.

2020 you asked me to answer your question... I see a few in this thread but I think they have all been very effectively answered by other members. If you have a specific question you want to ask me please feel free to let me know.

I'm not a huge fan of the flame wars in this section but it seems that you 1) don't understand some basic concepts behind IIFYM, 2) are trying to push a system that you make money off of, 3) have a huge superiority complex because you believe your system is the Holy Grail of dieting theory and 4) just want to start a fight.

As far as I am aware you are a personal trainer, not a "Champion", so perhaps you should tone down the rhetoric and stick to discussing nutritional science.

Good post, and it should be addressed in the sticky.

As far as the link, it has some great information. It also has some information that seems to go against what so many people here repeat as creed, that the type of calorie source doesn't matter, as long as the calories end up where you want them by the end of the day.

The part about consuming the remainder of calories from fat sources leading to an increased level of fat storage is particularly what I'm talking about.

    Thoughts?

I agree. I fell for the whole eat a ton of fat, carbs aren't important bullsh*t and felt like shiit. Motivation in the gym was pitiful. I now eat more carbs and ~70g of fat and I feel tons better, not to mention carbs are tastier. Of course, it's all individual though.

I think AA actually commented on this and said that. Excess calories once protein and fat are met should come from cho because they were less likely to be stored as fat. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    1. Clearly obvious, which is why I'm asking the questions in the first place

    2. I haven't mentioned anything about myself or what I do in my spare time.

    3. Have I claimed that my rationale is the only way to go?

    4. If I wanted to start a fight, I'd insult you. Forums are for discussion, which from time to time is going to involve some topics that you might not find fun. When that happens, you can discuss them like an adult or pass on contributing. Makes sense, doesn't it?

Yes, AA did say it. It seems to go against the 'calories in, calories out' concept that is held as the staple philosophy in the nutrition forum, which is why I brought it up, as AA is also held in high regards in the nutrition forum and the two appear to contradict each other.

Nothing to get into though, as it is off topic for this thread. I shouldn't have brought it up.

So since your question was answered, can you explain how IIFYM'ers are lazy while they plan their daily intake ahead of time? You made yourself look like an oxymoron.

At first glance, it appeared that IIFYM meant that a person should eat whatever they want, and that getting your macros from pure McDonald's food was OK. IMO, that is lazy and a big disconnect from the values of bodybuilding and nutrition in general.

It is more that telling someone they have the option of going pure McDonalds to reach their fitness related goals seems like poor advice. Lazy was the wrong word I guess.

No educated member of the "IIFYM crew" ever said anything even close to that.

Its not that it was ever directly stated. Its that If It Fits In Your Macros definitely puts out the 'eat whatever you want, as long as it fits in your macros' vibe. You must agree with me on that!

It does. But nutritional science is not about "vibes".
