    6 minutes of HELL!

Let me introduce you to a quick little workout I did this morning just because I had a few minutes to spare before going to work. I hopped on the treadmill thats when the intentions to have a quick metabolism booster.

first 30 sec walk at 3.0mph
    2nd 30 sec run at 5.0mph

    Now its Hell time
1 minute mark sprint at 8.0mph for 25 sec
    Rest 45 sec
    Sprint 9.0mph for 25 sec
    rest 45 Sec
    Sprint 10.0 for 2.5 sec
    rest 45 sec
    Sprint 10.0 for 25 sec

... and the six min. is up cool down for as long as you like. I ended up going until the 10 min mark. Nice quick workout and I feel great this morning.

btw, I know this is H.I.I.T.

Since when was 8-10mph a 'sprint'?

8mph for me translates to moderate intensity sustained cardio.

There was no was that was over 100 calories in 6 minutes. To burn 100 calories at that rate you'd have to sustain 10mph the whole time (a 6 minute mile) ... and that's assuming a real mile if running, not treadmill crap. Treadmills are easier than legit running.

Cool, should I also try it with 2 real legs and no physical handicap?

And yes, I have had to run at decent clips in full battle-rattle.

You know as well as I do that a lighter body is easier to move..... your handicap hasn't stopped you from achieving any of your fitness goals so I don't think it exempts you from the laws of physics.

And I'll be the first to tell you that HIIT is individual dependent. I didn't say it can't be an intense workout if you're not in shape, but don't call a duck an osprey. 8mph ain't a sprint and 6 mins of relatively slow 'HIIT'on a treadmill doesn't burn 110 calories.

People are awfully damn sensitive today. Pardon me for not coddling the random incorrect stranger on the Internet.

Since it was twice my bodyweight? And since when did I say it was noteworthy? It isn't by any stretch, it's just what I can do.

Jesus Christ. Anyone else want a box of tissues or an awkwardly long man-hug?

And yes, for the record ... I'm cranky. 30hrs of continous work will do that. If only the bus would drive faster ...

But if you're going to talk down to the guy who is bigger and not a runner for being slower than you, why cant I talk down to a guy who's smaller than me for having a lighter bench?

The guy is working hard and getting something out of it, no reason to give him **** for it.

You completely missed the point. It was never my intent to "poo poo" on anyone for being out of shape ... it was simply a matter of miss-labeling and then going on to wildly exaggerate the amount of calories burned. Like I said, you're being way too hypersensitive here. Byinlarge, I've been nothing but supportive and (at least attempting this next part) helpful in providing reasonable information to those looking to lose weight. It's just funny how soft/fuzzy this forum has because - in attitude.

Simplest way to get around it? Just say - walk fast for a minute, then jog/run at a decent pace for a minute, and then cycle sprints/rest without quantification. Congratulations! That's HIIT and will kick anyone's ass if they push themselves. It would be about like a newb lifter coming in here and saying "dude, I have the most awesome bench press routine! First you press the bar up 15 times, then you put a plate on a press that 6 times ... and then you put another 25 on there and lift that for 3 sets 2 reps, only 1 minute break!!" And then going on to wildly exaggerate the amount of calories you burned.

For me (and definitely for you) that bench press routine would be complete ass. So yeah, I'm cranky and I came off a bit harsh, but the point stands: 8mph ain't a sprint, and neither is 10mph really. 10mph is pretty fast, but still not a sprint by any standards. And I'm sorry, but I don't care if you weight 300lbs - there's no way that the posted routine on a treadmill is going to burn 100 calories. The average US male of average weight/height/muscle-mass will burn approximately 100 (+/-) per mile run. Doing the posted routine might get you 1/3 to 1/2 of a mile ... I'm honestly too lazy t do the math.

    Man-hug anyone?

No? Alright, I'm gonna go pass out for a few hours.

    Peace.

I agree, treadmill running is crap. I don't agree that treadmill running is easier, or at least for me. I feel like I am pushing myself a lot harder on the treadmill to try to keep my road pace. On Sunday I ran 5 miles in 37 minutes. Thats like a 7:24 pace. I didn't feel like I was running too fast. When I hit the treadmill yesterday I tried to do a 7:30 pace for just 2 miles and I was struggling.....

Treadmills are easier than legit running.
msm00b, thnx for the inquiry. Obviously you didnt read the rest of the post. I said that I did a total of 10 minutes. Plus I am 239lbs brah. Im not sayin the treadmill is 100% accurate, but thats all I can go by. This big body can only go so fast, so yes 8-10mph is a sprint for me.

I run on a shock absorbant treadmill rather than outside until I lose about 20+ more lbs. I have had issues before running outside with my knees so I keep to the elliptical and the treadmill. I also play basketball on a regular basis, but not outdoors.

First you press the bar up 15 times, then you put a plate on a press that 6 times ... and then you put another 25 on there and lift that for 3 sets 2 reps, only 1 minute break!!" And then going on to wildly exaggerate the amount of calories you burned.

8mph ain't a sprint, and neither is 10mph really. 10mph is pretty fast, but still not a sprint by any standards. And I'm sorry, but I don't care if you weight 300lbs - there's no way that the posted routine on a treadmill is going to burn 100 calories.
    -Edit: spelling
the 8mph and 10mph on the treadmill is faster than you think. But truthfully. I dont give a **** WTF you say. I am not here to lie. I am merely stating what I recorded from my treadmill. If you want to get your blood pressure up about it then thats you.

True, but this thread became a d!ck measuring contest so I thought it appropriate to throw it further off topic... Apologies and back to Misc I go.

He was just trying to point out that the calorie estimate of those machines is usually off on the high side. Isn't it better to know the truth?

I can agree with you on that. But he was basing it on just the 6 minutes of high intensity. My session was 10 minutes. I believed I easily burned 100+ in 10 min. And yes the Truth will set you free.
