after it arrived he took it for appraisal and turns out they faked the hallmark by waxing it on

    wasn't worth more than £10

Too bad you dont live in North Cali, we can be good business partners (no homo)
Are you into cars? I am going to start buying and flipping cars more in the future and I know cali has a ton of Luxury cars which can drive down the price. May need someone to go look/test the cars and then I would fly in to buy if they were legit. I will look back to this thread if I ever find a deal in NorCal

I am very skeptical of things that can be faked. I'd love to deal in watches, sunglasses and some collectible items, but I need to advance my knowledge in items that can be faked.

    Good guide bro.

Sounds like you have some cash saved up. I'd look into the next steps, registering a business, getting a state tax number, business license etc and a line of credit from a bank in your businesses name. At that point you can start shopping direct at wholesalers.

Good stuff! I'm an ebay buff myself and always thought that profit margins would be too slim to make any good money.

    Thank you,

I am working on it. I have a business license/business bank account. Right now I am not wanting to shop wholesale because I like buying one item and dumping it for a quick profit. I will probably stop buying small things and deal with Cars, Boats, RVs, Motorcycles as I know these vehicles very well.

My father buys and flips RV's about 2 or 3 times a year. He usually will buy a 2-3 year old 40 ft diesel pusher, have it for 3-6 months and sells it for 10-15k more than he paid.

His latest was a 2008 Fleetwood Revolution, paid 128k and sold it for 142k

Some damn good money in expensive Diesel Pushers

What your saying is sort of... basic info any 16 year old knows. No offence, but who doesn't understand the concept of buying low selling high? Thats business 101.

Problem is finding items at low prices (besides buying bulk) otherwise anyone would be doing this. Best thing to do is to find a niche business, tear it up for a month or so and find something else again. (I gave a useful tip about skins for handheld devices there... stuff is hot atm and everybody wants to protect their overpriced cellphones.)
Get a graphic designer and design some nice designs ( go vector, always looks good on white ), find someone that speaks chinese and contact some companies, invest 5000 by letting them print 20 different designs for 1.5 each, sell for 5-10.

There was a topic about his a week ago or something.

Thanks for the posts but it's pretty much basic info.
Business could buy low and sell relatively low to increase demand and therefore an increase in turnover.

Niche markets are a great way to make money on ebay now. But I don't see the point in giving up after a month.

Skins is a good idea but what designs would you use? How would you differentiate your product from the chinese sellers who sell for next to nothing. $5k would be a lot to invest for an initial ebay business.

Also not everyone would be buying and selling. It surprises me how many people won't know where to start with buying and selling on ebay.

I did ebay for about a year and a half.
Mainly video games, and hot wheels.
The profit margin doesn't cover the cost of shipping, listing, garage sales, craigslist meets, gas, and your time. Plus, you aren't gonna make that much of a profit on everything.

I'd understand if you have a full time job with guaranteed income, but you can't really live off of ebay as your only job. I understand investing in a car and then selling it and making 5k profit. But a majority of newcomers don't have that kind of money to invest.

You're right. The average person can't, because they don't know wtf they're doing. But they think they do, which drives up the prices and ruins it for everyone else.

I feel like I could do this full time and pull in 5-6k per month.

Not worth the risk, because its not guaranteed.

This is perfect for someone who wants some money on the side on top of a full time job. Or a student who wants some extra party money.

If you went to garage sales on Saturdays and came home, listed the items and sold them on 7 day auctions, the next Sat the items would be ending as your listing new items. I just cant get up early!

So as far as shipping is concerned you just pay a flat rate for the USPS boxes? Do you then just write the shipping information on the boxes with a sharpie or do you have some sort of label system?
