Would taking a week off from the gym aid in fat loss with a higher calorie deficit?

Let me explain myself, because the title might be confusing. I'm wondering if taking a week off, lowering the calories far below maintanence because your not using the calories to repair muscle, would help shed some extra bodyfat.

This would be a last resort step for me if I can't get into contest shape in the 12 weeks I have until show time. Would really appriciate any comments/suggestions.

The only reason you should ever take a week off from the gym (assuming you're not on vacation) is to deload and give your body a chance to heal. Aside from that, always keep lifting on your cut ... regardless of how negative a calorie balance you're aiming for.

It would probably aid in muscle-loss more than anything (not a good thing)...

If you're going to drop cals significantly you definately need to keep lifting to hold onto your muscle.

Besides, just one week of extreme low cals might not be enough to get where you need unless it's only 3-4 lbs you need to lose quickly...

Took a week off from upper body after hitting it HARD for the past few months and I just had the weakest upper body day EVER. I was failing at every lift I was trying, but to be fair I was working at 100% on everything and got tired pretty quick.

If you are going to take a week off, go slightly above maintenance IMO. Dont worry losing any fat for a week and give you body (and mind) a break if you need it. I will help you more in the long run I think
