Been bulking for a few months now and plan on competing next year. Im 5.8" and weigh 197lbs n just wanna know how bad this gyno is?
My bodyfat is still quite low... its just puffy nipples really. after a shower or in different temperatures it looks normal and you cant notice it at all. also if anyone knows if a decent cut will reduce the amount of fat deposit in the area?

Great solid physique
If you have gynae it looks pretty minimal, but you should be able to 'feel' it.
Gynae is breast tissue (all of us boys have residual breast tissue there) expanding under the influence of oestrogen. We all produce oestrogen as well. We produce more of it when we are fat, or when we have an excess of testosterone (as occurs in puberty or with AAS)
The breast tissue sits under the nipple but is usually bigger in circumference and will make the nipple and surrounding skin sit higher than the muscle underneath. You can actually 'roll' it underneath your fingertips and it will feel like a small beef 'pattie' or, if really small, a 'cushion button'
This is more typical - before and after (altho there are a lot worse examples!)

It could get worse while bulking, but will probably reduce whilst cutting. The downside of cutting is that any gynae becomes very obvious when you have low levels of subcutaneous fat. The usual treatment is hormonal, using 'anti-oestrogens' like Tamoxifen - used to treat some breast cancers (this may affect your eligibility to compete in a BB contest though). If it doesn't respond to that - and it may not if you've had it since puberty - then surgery is needed - that would be pretty radical for your degree of gynae

This is relevant to my interests.
80%+ really? Any rebound to be expected with tamo? Safety concerns for someone OP's age or mine? (20)
Off topic:
Excess testosterone can be aromatized into estrogen. Hence the frequent occurence of gyno with aas unless you use anti-aromatase.Last edited by coals; 03-14-2011 at 11:36 AM.

I know, this is what made me confused.
I have it about as much as you OP. Went to the doc got a blood test and some scans done at the radiologist, they confirmed dat dere gynecomastia, blood test showed above normal test lvls with estrogen within the normal range (although higher end) though so I obviously got it at some point during puberty. Doc told me surgery is the only option, and referred me to a surgeon. Surgery costs around 5-6k although I am yet to have a consultation. Is it worth it to you?

From what I've researched on the topic over the years, if you've never had issues with gyno before... then the increased testosterone, from naturally weight training will not induce gyno after.
Even using non-AAS supplements, that may increase testosterone, are not going to increase your testosterone high enough to where your body starts aromatizing it to the point it causes gyno.
Point being, if you've never had issues with gyno in your life and you are not using AAS, you have nothing to worry about.- /\^/\^Colorado Crew^/\^/\

It is, possibly with any level of test. I got gyno through puberty I was just so obese all my life and so ignorant I didn't really know it for what it is. I always noticed that I had more moobs than other fatties. For sure I hope it's due to high test though and not some other dumb reason that would cause me to aromatize at a high rate.
Interesting note: On my dad's side everyone from generations and generations back has either developed prostate or ovarian cancer, and the really bad metastatic kind. My grandfathers on my mother's side have a history of prostate cancer as well. I wonder if theres a link between high risk of prostate cancer (various kinds of which are induced by lots of test) and me getting gyno. Any thoughts?
Btw OP lookin SWOLE. Strong chest I'm mirin'
