What do you think is going to happen? Do you really believe Powerblock would sell something that is going to be dangerous to use? The only danger I can think of is lifting too much weight and hurting yourself. The powerblock is not going to just fall apart. People trust powerblocks because they have been making a quality product now for twenty years.
Anyway, I am curious to see how big these dumbbells will look. It's not something I will ever be purchasing, but still interesting. I bet they went to 175 just to one up Ironmaster. Gotta love competition.

if your talking about the spinlock db, they can hold quite over 100lbs
its a matter of place not weight limit in case of break
in fact the shorter the handle is, the less whip it as and this way required a lot more force to break....simple physic fact
powerblock handle are in plastic....maybe the will be in fiber glass, forged steel or anything..light weight baby

I just read about the 175 expansion at the Arnold exhibition on your ******** page. Is this for the Urethane series? If so, can you tell me when they'll be available?
Thanks!

This will not work with current urethane set. This is a whole new set that has much bigger handles and different size plates. More of a design to be used to power training facilities. We will have more information on this product in the future.
Sent from my Verizon Wireless Phone"
That's pretty lame. I have 125 lb Powerblocks that can't be expanded...and the new set is probably $1000+.
Maybe that addresses concerns at higher weights though.

The website says "Made in USA" for many of their stands, but not for their blocks. If they are, they should advertise it IMHO.
I have the box for the sport series and it says "Designed in the USA" but "Made in China" but have thrown out the urethane box I had (...I thought it said the same). Anyone still got the box from the Urethanes?

If I could shrug 175lb dumbbells I'd need lifting straps and I don't think that straps are easy to use with PowerBlocks.

Yeah I agree. I have my powerblocks at 90lbs and I really don't want to go any bigger with them. If I ever thought I needed bigger dumbbells I would probably get solid ones, but the price tag for heavy dumbbells would make me think twice. $250 to $300 for two dumbbells? No thanks
I've never tried, but I don't think it would be that hard to do, just a little annoying maybe. I hate straps though, they just bug me, but if I could do anything with a 175lb dumbbell, I would probably need them. Also it looks like the handles on those have more room inside them, so it may not be that hard to get a strap in there. I would need to see the inside of the handle.

Powerblock told me in an email that they planned on releasing a barbell that would work with all powerblock sets. It's supposed to be released this spring. If the the bar works with the 175 pound blocks I'd be interested. I travel also and use powerblocks and a travel bench on the road. It would be nice to have this set for deadlifts and squats.

Saw them today. I thought they were impressive. I didn't attempt to lift the full set, but did lift the full sized model that was probably 30lbs or so. Didn't have any problem doing hammer curls with it. Therefore, if I could curl 175 the size/shape wouldn't be a problem.
I'm assuming a prostyle dumbbell would be longer and more awkward.Last edited by dumb.bell; 03-04-2011 at 07:54 PM.
