Unhappy Pain in fingers, hand after pushups on soft surface

Two months ago I decided to do some push-ups (hands on the bed, legs on the floor). I suppose placing my hands on soft service caused some kind of strain because my fingers and forearms have been hurting ever since. The pain subsides after a week or so of inactivity, but every time I use my hands for a more strenuous activity such as lifting my 2-year old boy the pain returns. It doesn't hurt too much, there is no swelling, but still I can't work out and this is driving me nuts. I have decided to wait for a month or so and see what happens.

I think I damaged my hands because doing push ups on soft surface, it turned out, places an enormous strain on the hand's tendons because the heel sinks too much. So my advice is: DON"T DO IT

    PS: I'm 34
