general trends i see in my college classes with regards to laptops/notebooks
spanish kids = ipads
nerdy kids = those expensive gaming dells/alienwares etc.
sorority girls = macbooks
it all depends though, my composition class is a big mix of people and virtually everyone has a normal laptop. mine is definitely the ****tiest one by far (its over 3 years old) but it runs great luls

I've had a toshiba for ~3 years and i intend to keep it until it doesn't work anymore. I've used it so much that the battery lasts about 3 minutes without the charger in (i realise i could replace the battery but whenever i use my laptop i'm near a socket so it's not necessary right now). One of the keys came off but that was because a folder fell from my shelf and smashed onto the keyboard but it was only the 'end' key so i didn't even risk glueing it back on. The key still works there's just no actual key there. Also there is a slight crack forming on the top 2 corners of my laptop because my laptop bag is too small and i've been bringing it on the bus for years and into college. Still works 100% perfect though (minus battery power, obv)

i got a mac cause i have had nothing but bad luck with pc's. i went thru like 3 dell laptops, and like hinges broke like 4 times that hold the screen up, and they all got like SUPER slow after like a year, and the battery life like completely died after a year. i've had my mbp for like a year a half so far, and the battery still lasts forever, and its still super solid. am i against pc's? nope, just had bad luck and wanted to try something different and couldn't be happier

had an HP that i got first year, by 2nd year starting it was already fuking up. it got really fuked like a month in and i was pissed about it, so got mbp. i paid half and my mom paid half, personally i like it way more. yeah you pay more but there are so many perks about it, and its battery life, and size/design are superior to a pc (imo). it cost more but i think you get what you pay for in this case (and also some brand) so it just depends if your willing to shell out the money

no.
you're doing it wrong bro. you have to be a complete retard.
My brother and sister have each had a dell laptop for 5+ years with no problem. I've had mine for a little over a year, its still fast as can be even with lots of pron and absolutely no viruses, you've got to be a retard these days to get a virus.
People get Macs to fit in, plain and simple. Both of my roommates spent 1.8-2k on their MBP, while i spent $500 on my dell laptop. The only "pro" i see them having is a sweet photo editing system, but i could easily buy one pretty cheap or just do a little sneaky work and get it for free on here.
When i see people with MBP nowadays, i just think of them as mindless retards. Go buy a $400 northface and $10 starbucks coffee.

I bought a 1500 dollar hp laptop like 3 years ago. One time I was watching the departed on it with this girl I had brought back to my dorm room and ended up knocking the laptop off the top bunk like 5 feet down onto the cement floor. Not one part broke on it, and it still works great to this day. I actually have everything plugged into it so it acts like a desktop and plays games, etc if I want to.

didnt read page 2 but i will explain to you almost every reason why
these reasons only compare to another laptop not a 5k alienware computer
1. you said you can buy 3 PC's for the price of one mac. true, you will also go through 3 PC's before you go through 1 mac
2. VERY strong build quality, dropped mine so many times and its still brand new
3. looks sexy
4. brighter screen and resolution seems to destroy any PC
5. easy interface
6. my batter lasts 7-10 hours. my PC battery used to last 2 hours max and i thought that was alot! the reason why macs batteries last longer is because with PC's they buy batteries that are shaped like cylinders. so you have wasted space. but with macs they buy specially made ones made just for the mac that are square = no wasted space
7. built in battery. with a PC its recommended to replace the battery once every year. with a mac i think its once ever 2,3, or 5 i cant remember exactly. but double a PC thats for sure
8. you cant compare PC hardware to mac hardware. why? because everything in a mac is build specifically for that computer. so its made to run THE MOST EFFICIENT. which in return increases battery life and speed and such. thats why the startup time on a mac is the same as a $1500 dollar PC. and yeah ive tested it
9. light up keyboard. i know some PC's have it but 99% dont and IMO thats what made me get the macbook pro over the air (no CD drive doesnt matter who uses a CD drive anyways, at least i havent in sooo long. everything is downloadable). best feature ever
10. BEST touchpad ive ever seen. very easy to use and just like a modern touch screen it knows when you use 2 fingers or 1 or 3 or 4. even when my fingers are closed and VERY close to each other. you wont understand until you use it. i LOVE that i can scroll with 2 fingers instead of using wasted space on the side of the trackpad. or using 3 fingers to go back or forth a page. instead of using the buttons on the top of the web browser/delete key. or using 3 fingers to page up and down. or pinch to zoom in/out. or make it so top left of trackpad will do something. or top right/bottom left/right...whatever corner you wanna use
11. rarely you will get a virus if ever
12. if you arent playing a game you will NEVER hear the fan. i have only heard it one time when playing a game and never heard it again. on my toshiba and HP i heard it everytime. built from aluminum so it stays cool all the time
13. the charger is made so if you hit it it doesnt drop your laptop to the floor. which ive done so many times to my old computers. hit my charger on my mac on many occasions and it just easily unplugged and didnt drag my laptop to the ground
14. small things also make this perfect. some PC's have this but its very rare. button on the side to tell me my battery life so i know to bring my charger or not. usually i wouldnt care. but with a 10 hour battery life i want to know whether or not to bring my charger or not cuz it never runs out unlike a PC that will run out in a hour or less
im sure theres more but thats the main stuff other than the badass unibody stuff. this is all based off of my macbook pro 13 inch
edit: yeah some PC's will have some of these in their computer. but you wont have all of this in 1Last edited by stafford0327; 02-21-2011 at 10:03 PM.

I used PCs for the longest time and then went to a MacBook Pro. Won't ever go back. Mine was $1700, got it as a graduation present for working my ass off in HS. I like the look of it better than most PC's but here's why I consider it better than a PC...
- Chance of getting a virus on a Mac is extremely low compared to a PC. The reason for this is a majority of computer owners have a PC because they're cheaper. Which means people who create viruses make them for PC's rather than Macs because making them for Macs would affect very few people comparatively. A lot of PC users normally counter this with "Yeah only dumbasses on PC's get viruses cuz they look up ****/open stupid emails without protection software." From my experience, that is completely false. My dad and brother both have PC laptops all loaded up with highly rated virus software. Each have gotten a few viruses that the software was supposed to stop and they are both very intelligent as far as what to search for and what emails to open/not open.
- The screen and keyboard. Go look at any Apple screen on their products nowadays and tell me they don't look better than most PC's. The colors pop out like crazy and everything is super crisp. I also love the keyboard. Mine is backlit which makes it very nice typing papers late at night and such. The spacing between the keys is also really nice and tends to stop me from pressing more than one button at once which is just convenient more than anything.
- No more control alt delete. Any PC I've used (and yes Ive used some of the newest ones) tends to freeze up quite a bit more than my Mac. The only problem Ive ever had with my Mac was Safari quitting once in awhile while I was doing something. Other than that, nada. Everything just seems to run quicker and more efficiently than the PC's Ive used. Starts up quicker, shuts down quicker, brings up programs faster. Just better all around in my opinion.
Not bashing PC's out there, if you have a good PC and you like it then who gives a ****. Personally, I just love Macs.
