Saw quite a few videos show up on youtube exposing fake instagram guitarists. Every man and his dog has chimed in and I'm surprised it's taken this long for them to comment.

It should be blatantly obvious how much editing is going on for starters removing every stray noise to create perfectly clean lines and then they speed it up slightly to take it beyond "natty" limits.

It's no different to other forms of instagram fraud like photoshopped muscles and lifting videos with fake plates. Only serves to make the real talent stand out even more.

Never tried editing to polish or speed up a video, usually just do 100 takes to get one that’s somewhere near decent. Brb just achieved video shred status over the holiday break...

the head movement is a dead give away if they’re faking.

if the head is moving around quickly and unnaturally the playing is sped up. that’s why most fakers only film below the chest.

Finally got my first pedal - Whammy DT! Having some real fun changing tunings on the fly and getting some nice shimmers without needing a trem bar... for a fan of offsets this is a godsend, since Jazzmaster and Mustang trems suck hard. I also came to the realization that the "keeping lots of guitars for different tunings" is no longer a good excuse, so a culling is due soon...

Don't have any desire to add to the pedal board right now, but I'm thinking about amps and cabs. I've always been a fan of the articulation-under-distortion Dream Theater sort of tone, but I live in a small studio in a wood-framed building so I can't exactly stack Mesa Boogies around the crib... so I'm thinking about going the ampsim route. Anyone try the Neural DSP stuff?

Ya but some dudes are getting accused when they are legit srs, I had a few skype lessons with one of them and I know for a fact he's legit yet people are accusing him of being a faker.

Also in one of my insta videos of me doing some sweeps some dude sent me a message accusing me of faking when all my videos are 100% live playing.. I think one of the things that happens is when syncing the interface audio with the camera video you can never get it 100% so some parts don't look real when they are..

Check this Strat I snagged a little while ago. 2004 Flip Flop blue/green custom color. I've read / heard from a few sources that only 200 were made.

It has a few upgrades, gold hardware, locking tuners, pearl pickguard and a dimarzio mini humbucker in the bridge. Plays and sounds awesome.

Definitely an eye catcher- look at it from one angle and it's green, look from another and it's blue. Love the colored headstock too

Like 1 broken string on a guitar? Depends on which string, but like $2-$5.

70c to $1. Stock up on extra E and B strings when you buy a few packs of strings. That's what I do although with .012 and heavier E strings I rarely break them.

Sometimes it's subtle. Since they're always recording to a DAW to sync the audio with the video later they can go in and clean it up which you can't perceive from the video. They could also do 100 takes of a difficult lick then splice it in with the rest of the take and you'd never know. I'm sure a lot of that goes on. Unless someone is playing live in front of you or it's a phone recording you have to assume that might be going on.

However for those frauding the entire track all they'd have to do is tune down a whole step, even a half step, play a few BPM slower, then speed it up. They might even be able to play at full speed in a Skype lesson or whatever but just not as cleanly.

It's like someone benching 400 for reps. They're already strong. But on slap a fake plate or two and now suddenly they look like freaks. That's what I'm talking about with pushing beyond natty limits.

Personally I have no issue with someone cleaning up a recording like I described to create the perfect take for the benefit of the music. It eventually sounds robotic and artificial but it is what it is. The problem is when they do those "playthrough" videos like it's all one take and it's perfect. In some cases it's also being sped up.

After watching tons of demos and reading forum feedback, I ended up going with the Nolly. Seems like it was hard to miss, anyways. Once all my computer parts get here hopefully I'll have a nice recording setup to churn out crap with until something turns out good

    TL black custom: 1998
Heavy as fuk, big fat neck, beautiful dark tone.

    BL: cherry sunburst standard: 2003
My favorite (and my first Paul). Absolutely rips, plays so smooth, never goes out of tune, never moves even when it gets humid.

TR: sunburst custom: 1979 (my birth year)
Great shape for 40, spent most of its life in a studio.
T top pups sound a little thin clean, but that great, raunchy rock sound when you feed them a little drive.

    BR: blueberry burst traditional: 2018
Bright tone. I had GAS bad and fell in love with that finish.

The weather here right now would test out any guitar with a low action outside a room with aircon running 24/7. Check this out.

Over 100°F in the day with humidity in single digits then around 70-80°F at night with humidity up in the 90s.

    Spoiler!

With that weather report out of the way... mirin that beautiful collection.

Any of you take similar approach to practice as with lifting?

Like X amount of this drill, Y amount of that drill?

Or even by time or some other parameters?

I’d have been so pissed! I’m sure reverb covered it, but still.
I should be thankful that I’ve had nothing but good experiences buying from that site. I think I’ve bought 4 guitars through reverb now, 3 that were shipped and 1 that was actually local so I could test drive it.

All my transactions buying and selling on Reverb have gone smoothly although I've never bought anything over $500.

I shipped a pedal to the US and felt great that it arrived in the buyer's hands in only 3 business days which is probably better than USPS Retail Ground coast to coast there. I'll never understand the mindset of people who enjoy ripping people off.

    Scumbags to Say the least.

I’ve made some pretty significant buys and thankfully they went smooth and the sellers were awesome people. I prefer to test drive a new guitar out but there were certain models I wanted that never come available near me so I had no other choice but to have them shipped in

Only hiccup I had with buying online so far was Ebay's ****ty ass international shipping program losing a pickguard in transit. Reverb has been a great experience.

Me and a buddy have been "flipping" vintage instruments on Reverb for over a year. Even though we're the sellers (we don't buy many pieces on Reverb), we won't ship dick until we chat with you on the phone (even if payment has cleared). Haven't had a problem.

Just picked up a kemper toaster 2nd hand. I know it's old tech but holy **** this thing is a game changer.

Was using BIAS FX before. Can literally get any amp I want on this thing. I'm thinking of getting a fuzz pedal to plug in, but apart from that I'm pretty happy

Can you guys tell me if this is a good deal?

Guy is selling this 1999 Marshall JCM2000 - DSL 50 for $400. I am really torn on whether i should get it or not. I have always wanted a marshall and use a voxac30s1 now.

To be a rock, and not to roll

Hey, I believe in God, man. I've seen him, I've felt his power. He plays drums for Led Zeppelin and his name is John Bonham, baby!

I have the DSL100 head and absolutely love the sound, however I bought it used and have had a bunch of problems with it. First shop I had look at it told me it had some serious work done inside it before. It’s at the shop now and if this time doesn’t fix it for good it’s getting scrapped. Shame because when it works I love it.

I’m gonna chalk this one up to getting sold someone else’s problem/project because I have a few other used amps (Marshall and other) that have always been stellar.

When the temp warms up with 2” of rain, all the snow melts and you have to rescue your guitars from a flooding basement (that’s finished). Never moved so fast up and down a flight of stairs.
saved them all thankfully, but fml the basement is a disaster now

Anyone know anything about finishing guitars? What could I do with my lacquer white strat? If I take it to a luthier and tell him to sand it then treat it or something would it have that natural wood look?
