I understand the concept, but the problem I have is volume. It seems to lose a good amount of volume when I pull my finger off.

I just watched some Tommy Emmanuel videos... he really is amazing.
I know you figured out a little bit later and you said you were losing volume when you pulled off... At full volume I tend to push to the side a little bit when I do a pull-off, the callouses on my fingers catch the string and it's like it got its own pluck for that note. It adds a lot of volume to it.In WY for the summer. PM me if you are from around Wheatland!

Pretty good. I can't fingerpick for ****. Might learn Yesterday by myself, looks fun to play.
Anyway, here are my vids. Been playing ~8 months, so these are first vids I ever recorded. Pretty **** quality thanks to the camera but there's worse out there lol
I know I made loads of mistakes but it's fun playing these things
Half of Eugene's Trick Bag
Half of Holy Wars
Some random sweeps

You should definitely do Mustaine's solo from Holy Wars. Maybe some Iron Maiden solos? Also the solo from Judas Priest's Painkiller is just amazing.
Jason Becker's the man. It blew my mind when I first heard Perpetual Burn.
I'm learning Paganini's 24th Caprice at the moment, it's pretty fun. You can get the tab from here http://www.drviossy.com/media.htmlWorkout journal: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=116712111

Awesome, wish I could afford some. Was taking lessons for few months but recently stopped.
One thing I'd advise you to do is to control the direction of the lessons, don't let your teacher pick everything you should learn. I imagine most teachers will want to go for the easy option of wasting lessons on teaching songs. Just say you wan't to do something different.Workout journal: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=116712111

Im not sure if im posting in the right section but his semed like a good place, im kinda new to playin guitar (acoustic) and was getting confused after trying to learn a song's strumming pattern from youtube tutorials, So i was just curious do you guys just follow youtube tutorials and use their strumming patterns (if you look up tutorials) or do you guys just listen to the song and pick up your own ?

It's pretty easy to pick up strumming patterns just by listening, and almost no one will notice if you don't do it exactly like it is on the record

There's nothing wrong with teaching songs bro, it's just important that the songs require particular techniques or skills/chords that you are trying to teach your student.. putting techniques in context and learning WHOLE songs is pretty beneficial for a few reasons.
Most importantly I think it introduces the idea of getting the right tone/feel for a song instead of just being able to PLAY it.
