Question When is it too much?

I am following Layne Norton's PHAT. On many days, I add more exercises that he has listed and am in the gym for over an hour so I can hit my body better and more diversely. Is this a mistake? Should I not be doing extra because they result in me being in the gym longer. I guess what my main question is...is when should I stop? I can always think of more to do. I always want to do everything I can do for the day's muscle groups and do not know when to stop because I feel like the more the better.

More is not better. You are just heading yourself for a stall while not making yourself grow any faster. All you have to do is enough to stimulate growth more is just wasted work.

In other words, you are making a mistake.

Its fine to throw in a few extra exercises here and there just dont go crazy with it. Like try to avoid doing large compound movements later in your workout. A few more isolation lifts are ok. And also try to avoid muscle groups you are using the next day.

There is no perfect quantity answer to your question of thats what youre looking for

That's fine. I do this sometimes too when I feel like I want to hit something harder, or touch up an extra muscle group. Don't worry about overtraining unless you are physically in pain lol
