hey producer bros, I put together like 6 or so dubstep synths/presets that I made myself with Massive last night. If I make a little sample sound of all of them, would you guys wanna let me know what you think of them? I am VERY new to making beats, and even newer to making my own sounds.
Again NOT songs, just crazy dubstep sounds I made lol.

lol my bad dude, guess I should just leave my playing around producing stuff to myself lol! I'm gonna refrain from posting any original production stuff for many months until I believe it's good enough for your guy's ears.
I am working on Dubstep Mix #2 right now though. Was thinking of putting some DrumStep in there too, making it a little more complex then the last mix.
Again I promise, NO MORE ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS from me hahahah!!

a word from the wise, don't put out anything in the red to the public lol. besides the issue of artifacts destroying the mix, you also have guys like me who have monitors too big for their room running full blast so yeah ears=blown lol :P!
well done! i don't listen to much hip-hop but this is a good listen and reminds me of stuff i'd hear people playing in the 90s lol - not a bad thing. though, the kick could use some tail. i take it you're using a drum machine or something?

128kbps and faded in and out so the pirates don't get me before it's released lol. some parts will be edited/changed and we still have percussion to fix/add but the ideas thereNew Jersey Crew (973)

I think I'm a long way behind some of you guys in this thread. I'm producing using FL studio only on my HP laptop which has no soundcard and I have no speakers, so everything is done through my £15 pair of headphones. I should really get some new gear.
Nevertheless I thought I'd contribute with a track I just finished to see what you think. I'd say it probably comes under progressive house. I've borrowed a bit from The Grass Roots' 1967 hit, "Let's Live for Today"
Would really appreciate feedback especially on the technical side of things. I don't really know how to master properly and my headphones make it even more difficult.

the clip didnt work for me
yeah im also using fl studio, what do you think of it?
Also, are the majority of you guys using keyboards? So far i have only been using my mouse to make melodies which makes it pretty slow, hard to get creative, and have a nice flow, so im thinking of getting one.
Worth it? If so, what do you guys use, and what range of sounds can they do? Can most go from any synth sounds to drums, winds, ect?
thanks

cant comment right now on the mixdown/etc. but you have a great track going right there! i'd ease up on the random percussion OR if you want to keep it, take it way down in volume and use reverb & delay send tracks to make them more ******t.
any midi keyboard can control anything in your daw - vsts, drumpads, etc. - all you have to do is map it for the individual things you need.New Jersey Crew (973)

Just made a new soundcloud account and uploaded a track I put together over the weekend. I've done no compression or any type of mastering on this yet. It clips a bit at the start, not sure why. But I thought I'd put it out there to see what people think. It's uptempo tech house.

I like it once the beat gets going, but something sounds a little cooky about the percussion in the beginning lol. I think it's because you can't really hear the 4th kick come in over the rat-a-tat-tat drum that also comes in at the same time.
I don't really know much about production but I do a lot of mixing now. But I think if you made the four kick drums stand out a little more and made the percussion beat a little less rat-a-tat-tat sounding, this would really be a stand out track.

How do you get your waveform all smooth and rounded like this?
http://soundcloud.com/youfeedme/sets...e-to-the-stars
This was my first attempt, and this isn't a song, more like a basic beat. But you can see how it looks all staticky on the top and bottom, not smooth and round like Feed Me's is.
http://soundcloud.com/mixxxx/my-song
BTW the above song which I made actually has sidechain compression lol. Don't know if I did it right though.
I listen to guys like Feed Me, and I honestly wanna not even bother with Producing and just stick w/ mixing lol. I would never be satisfied with myself producing wise unless I was making bangers like he was, but I just don't think I have whatever it is that guy and people like Deadmau5 have. The guy is just a friggin alien or something, I can't compete lolLast edited by shoobey; 05-23-2011 at 11:37 AM.

feed me's final track has been mastered and that makes all the difference in final waveform. don't worry about how your waveform looks - so long as your ears tell you that it sounds good (across many mediums of reference). get the mixdown sounding proper, make sure everything is lush and dynamic, then send it to a mastering engineer. even if you did know how to master, i wouldnt suggest mastering your own tracks unless you're on an extremely professional level
also don't be discouraged by professional producers. just because a guy in your gym can deadlift 750 doesn't mean you shouldn't work out...chances are he's been doing it longer than you've been alive and with time you can know the ins and outs of everything like he does.New Jersey Crew (973)
