How do you fight S.A.D ( seasonal anxiety disorder) while body building?

Well I hope the question says it all.
I get pretty bad S.A.D and I don't have the money or insurance to get the medication I need or therapy.... Last year I did an amazing job gaining my 20LBS of lean muscle... Unfortunately like clock work my S.A.D got the best of me..... Lost everything I gained and I really want it back.. I'm just not to sure if I can go through this in&out of working out and wanting to crawl into a dark whole.....
    Any advice helps.....

    Thanks!

You may want to supplement with Vitamin D. Heard that this may help.

I agree with the Vitamin D.

I also have depression issues and after being medicated for a period of time I've chosen to stay off of the medication. I've been supplementing with Vitamin D for a while now and I've found that it does help a great deal for me. I take 1 2000i.u. cap in the morning and another in the evening, though sometimes I'll skip the one in the evening if it's too late and close to bedtime.

Also, if trying to force your workouts despite the depression is resulting in negatives, it's only creating more anxiety, depression and frustration on top of what you're already experiencing, just making things that much worse. In this case it would be good to maybe just step back and relax a bit and eliminate that added anxiety. Surely you can do with a rest, spend some time focusing on the diet and maintaining that, try to find a small hobby or something as a diversion during this time may help, meditation can be a positive thing as well, both to help with the depression issues as well as the frame of mind while you lift as well.

    yeah thats kinda odd?

i know NorCal gets gloomy when it rains but to places with a TRUE 4 season, couple days of gloomy weather isn't much

    have you tried Fish Oil?

that helps with depression and it also is VERY good for you health wise and mentally

i would recommend Fish Oil and surround yourself with light 24/7

i.e. bright lit room and certain bulbs are also recommended for it

We call this dark hole Minnesota. Seriously you don't have SAD. SAD requires actual seasons.

Never understand why people put labels on EVERYTHING they see, experience or are not able to do. I mean, even kids these day can't be just 'good'. If you can't jumprope 3 times at age 10 your parents get a note, and the kids goes to jumprope therapy to catch up.

I think stopping to say to yourself you have some sort of anxiety/disorder is the most important thing to get rid of it. People are creating their own problems.

good luck with your fitness goals in 2011 though!!
