    Spinning for Fat Loss?

    I'm at around 185lb, 23% BF and have started to go back to gym again from this week. Plan is obviously to get in shape by bringing the BF down.

    I plan to lift weight 3x a week (Chest+Tri, Back+Biceps, Legs, also known as push-pull split), and am planning to take up spinning every other day.

    Has anyone tried spinning for fat loss ? I know it makes you sweat like anything, and burn 600-900 calories in an hour, but is the exercise too intense to target fat loss ?

    I walk by the spinning studio all the time at my gym, and have wondered the same thing. Honestly, the only thing keeping me away from it is the 5ft tall gestapo shrieking into a microphone. It's irritating. I don't need to hear that for motivation, but maybe others do.
    260lbs --> 165lbs --> 184lbs

    I rep back.

    too intense? maybe on an individual level, but try it and see if u want. it's just cardio, so it will help create a larger caloric deficit.

    I like spinning a lot. So much so that I bought my own spin bike and do HIIT on it. I'm also a mountain biker. Spinning helps quite a bit with my endurance on the trails. Your experience in a spin class will vary, depending on your instructor. Also, it's only as intense as you make it. You are in control of you cadence and the resistance setting of the bike.

    spinning is great, easy on the joints too. i bike all the time, its like when you run you can only take a few steps at a time, when you spin/bike you can take like 10 15 steps at a time, so if u do math, whta will burn more fat?

    If spinning is the stationary bikes which is what I understand from the posts here, I usually do some HIIT for 15 minutes after lifting.

    Try it out and see if you like it!

    If you do, by all means continue. It's good cardio.

    I hear you guys when you say its a good workout and you love it, but is it a good fat loss exercise? Or is it just a good endurance exercise?
    For fat loss, you have to maintain heart rate at a certain level, for a certain time. Anything less, and you would most likely be using up the carbs stored in the body to fuel yourself....anything more, you'd be using something else (cant recall what it is...muscle/protein maybe?).
    Thats what one of my friend said, and he challenged me to do my research and find a case where people lost fat with it!

    He says even on "biggest loser" you'd never see them on an hr long spinning sprint !

    Ummm well it doesnt really matter if it was an endurance exercise as endurance means doing cardio for a prolonged period of time, so in that case it'd be very effective at fat loss, I may be wrong but I'd go as far to say that spinning is an efficient fat burning exercise
