Hey Everyone,
How many days a week does everyone lift?
I am looking to really get some definition, and have been lifting 2 days a week. I recently read that some people lift 4 days a week and have more success.
Just curious what everyone does...

3 or 4, depending on the week that's in it, what my other committments are and what kind of recovery I feel I need.
Goal: Peace, love & happiness...and arms that go bump in the night.

I did the first stage of the New Rules of Lifting for Women twice a week, so it took me 2 months. You can see my progress in my profile pic.
I have recently started doing 3 times a week. I'm worried about the soreness with only a day of rest between most lifting sessions, but the book recommends 3 times a week so that's saying something.

Because of family and coaching responsibilities, I make it to the gym only twice a week. Its working well for me, but since I have some much rest in between sessions, I hit it hard each time.
Ideally, I think 3 times/week is best."Good character is more to be praised than outstanding talent. Most talents are, to some extent, a gift. Good character, by contrast, is not given to us. We have to build it, piece by piece -by thought, choice, courage, and determination.” -H.J. Brown

I lift three days a week... more than that is usually overkill for me - I work five days a week
9-6 (yes, I'm on school holidays....), then I'll be back to school (new school.) in two weeks, plus it's a 45 min train ride from my house AND the gym! Yay me. :|
O.K. well yeah, I'll quit the whining. I guess it depends on how much time you have on hand and how much volume there is to your routine - and of course, you need to listen to your body and give it time to recover. Some people will have 4 day splits but I guess that's for more advanced lifters.... us beginners can benefit from 3 day splits and easily make progress. But yeah 2 days sounds fine, it just really depends on how much work you're getting in and the intensity that you're working at.

2 days a week is not enough to make any progress. Until you reach intermediate levels of weights, full body workouts 3 X week give you the most bang for your buck.
The definition comes from losing fat over the muscle (as Kimm4 said), but dieting won't be useful if you don't have a muscle base to work with.
Good luck!

Any routine I am doing needs to be able to be modified into a 4 day upper lower split for me. 5 days is somewhat more ideal, but tougher to do with my schedule, so 4 works just fine. 3 is not good for me - that would mean full body sessions which don't work for me since 2 days often need to be consecutive (I get weekend mornings to work out uninterrupted so like to take advantage of that).
