I strained a muscle in my lower back deadlifting 575 tonight.
dumping nsaid cream on my back, icing the **** out of it and using a massager on it....
what makes this more infuriating was deadlift felt extremely strong today.
**** my life.

DAMN. Just keep babying it like you are right now. I always get a lot out of contrast showers so do those if youre not already. Buy some of those adhesive heat pads and keep them on there all day. Go walk on the treadmill or something to keep moving. You still have about ten days and this forced layoff could very well end up being beneficial. Good luck!

thanks everyone.... I can't even begin to explain how angry I am right now.... last real workout before raw unity and this happens.......
it is defiantly muscular, it feels better already after nsaid gel, ice, and kneading massager.. and its only been maybe 3 hours since I strained it.....only hurts slightly when I do anything that uses my lower back
It could turn out being a good thing, I wont know till im in the warmup room at raw unity. I'm not doing any kind of training aside from prehab type still till raw unity (well bench training)

Agreed. You're a beast, don't count yourself out of something 11-12 days away. Being pissed won't do you any good until you're back in front of the bar on the platform. Until then, just be confident that you'll be able to lift. You're in the final stretch, and the mental game is more important than ever right now.
btw are they gonna stream this meet anywhere?501, 302, 551; 1354 @ 181

This fits the description of lumbar strain to a tee, and it seems to be a pretty minor one at that.....
Im using voltaren gel and icing it at the moment, my spine specialist told me that killing off inflamation the second the problem occurs will cut down recovery time, so im not going to be putting anything on my back that gets hot...

thank you everyone.... it feels a ton better already.... I don't think i've ever had a lower back strain improve like this before... nsaids and ice are helping a bunch....I'll have to wait and see though.
This strain will greatly impact my squat if it doesn't heal.... and my squat is my best lift, but I still out pull my squat by 40 lb...
I don't understand the "never had good deadlift leverages anyway" bit... i've got a lumbar strain from squatting before, they heal in under 2 weeks usually.Last edited by Newbtime; 01-12-2011 at 02:19 PM.

thanks gary.
I'm really surprised how much better it feels today..... im probably going to go into the gym and do some hamstring curls and seated ab crunches and leg extensions, and some BW back extensions tomorrow.... just resting till the meet now..... won't really know what I got till it happens.

I'm pretty confident I'll be able to compete at raw unity. What I will hit is anyone's guess at this point though. What I will say is my squat and deadlift were by far the strongest they have ever been in my life..... And I have pulled a pr after taking off two entire weeks off my first workout back in the past.
I'm going to do supplemental work tomorrow, and a 70% session 3 days out just to keep some fatigue up untill my scheduled deload.... I think its more mental than anything at this point..... but I will be disappointed in my self if I miss 1800 for the third time.... I'm getting really sick of set backs.
