He is a great actor, but in this trilogy he's given very few scenes to demonstrate that.

The Roku app has a search feature that looks at all your subscriptions and tells you where you can watch stuff, just learned this, pretty damn cool.

I finally got around to watching Bohemian Rhapsody

It was pretty well done, somewhat touching and somewhat moving. Honestly I think Freddie Mercury deserved better than that. I could never really feel his character.

To be honest Freddie is a tough character to play for anybody, being so recognizable and legendary. I thought the actor really put a ton of effort in his part and is to be commended for his work. Much better effort than say Elton John in "Rocketman" in my opinion. But yeah it's a hella tough role to pull off.

"Three billboards outside ebbing missouri" (spoilers)
Story set in a small town where a girl was raped and killed and months later the case is still nowhere near to be solved. The girl's mother feels the cops are not putting any effort in it so she rents 3 billboards and plasters them with posters that say so. As sometimes happens, people who make waves are often punished by the community, and the fact the town cops are total idiots doesn't help.

The acting is good but the story is too far fetched. First, it felt like a hit piece against cops, presented as incompetent, dumb, selfish if not right down evil. That may have felt truer in a big city, but in a small town where they grew up there, everyone knows each other, I have a hard time believing cops would not give a single phuk. Incompetent maybe, not super smart probably, but not giving a phuk sounds wrong.

Also lots of totally unrealistic scenarios. Like somebody sets fire to the police station and then hangs around to watch while wearing the backpack used to carry the molotovs. Cops show up and question that person. Person says "I was walking from over there, just turned the corner and saw the fire" and cops go "oh ok then you clearly have nothing to do with it". LOL what? Or guy with cancer doesn't want wife to remember him as sick and frail so he shoots himself in the head in the barn because I guess remembering you with your brains smeared all over the floor is so much better. Or super jerky azzhole has sudden 180 degree turnabout and turns into hero after reading a letter.

First Man - any good? I only managed first 5 minutes, not sure if I should continue wasting my time. So far too much dramatization. Neil flying X15 like an idiot. Is the whole movie like this?

We gave Rocketman a try, Wife liked it, but when they all busted out in song and dance I felt like it really detracted from his life's story. I mean there was some really good stuff with his talent, relationship with his Dad, relationship with drugs & Bernie. I think the story just could have been laid straight out and it would have been a fine movie.

Watched "Into the Labyrinth" tonight, free on Vudu.

It's a long time investment, 2 hours 15 minutes. At times I thought it was brilliant and you have to watch it because it's 75% subtitles with the Actors speaking French. Basically a gal is abducted at 13 and shows up alive in a swamp 15 years later becuase she was able to get through a Labyrinth her kidnapper created with the promise that if she solved it, she would have freedom.

I wish the story had been that simple but there's so many twists and turns it's hard to keep up, I enjoyed it but I would have a hard time recommending it to anyone else.

The Plot Against the President (2020)

    https://www.amazon.com/Plot-Against-.../dp/B08LMJ93LL

This is a must watch. It's facts most of us already know, but it's laid out well, and pretty disturbing. Discusses the first impeachment that started before Trump even took office. I think I've heard of FISA warrants, but it talks about them in-depth, basically what Snowden's been talking about.

Re-watched Django this week, such a damn good flick.

Never seen Groundhog Day before, found it enjoyable.

Greenland starring Gerard Butler & Morena Baccarin has a solid cast but it's extremely formulistic and you know all the issues they are going to deal with long before they occur. Honestly I found it a tad bit long and boring at times & just wanted to get to the end to see what happens.

    Howdy Bando....

    I saw that one too.
I actually liked it and thought is was well done even though we know most of the team wouldn't make out alive.
Peter Sarsgard is always convincing especially when he plays a shvt head bad guy role.
Denzel is convincing too and I wouldn't hesitate recommending it if one like the genre.

Saw one last night that I hadn't heard of called "Aftermath" with that Schwarzenegger fella.
Being a drama, which are dull to me, I thought I'd give it a view anyway.
His daughter, who is pregnant, dies in a plane crash that was blamed on the controller even though it wasn't really that clear a case to me.
So...Arnie has plans to make him pay being blamed for the plane crash.
I found it slow, dull and if I were asked I wouldn't recommend it.

Have a great day weed hoppers....

Watched "Midway" starring Woody Harrelson amongst others and its an intense film with a lot of aerial battles. The odds the US forces were up against and the resolve to never quit was amazing. My grandfather fought in the Pacific and I have a few pics of him in Hiroshima after the bombing and surrender. I wish he were still alive so I could ask him a lot of questions about the war as he never spoke about it when I was growing up.

There is a scene in the movie where the Japanese have 2 POW's onboard a ship and are questioning them and threatening to toss them overboard, the one guy basically tells them "fuk you" and they toss him in the water, followed shortly by an anchor which was attached to the rope binding his hands. That scene is nuts.

I watched Compliant earlier, story is of a person pretending to be a cop, calling a fast food place and convincing the manager that one of the employees is a thief and convincing the manager to strip search the pretty young woman. Things go from bad to worse for the young lady, I almost couldn't finish it, but it was pretty compelling and based on a true story.

Honest Thief starring Liam Neeson is enjoyable even if you know in the end it will all work out good for him as it always does. He plays a now retired thief who had decided to right his wrongs and go legit but the FBI has other ideas.

That was pretty decent. I'm all in on any Liam Neeson kills people movie. Thought they went a bit too strong making his thievery noble, but I enjoyed the movie.

Django a somewhat recent Western style Tarantino flick worth watching.

    Crooked House

well-made film based on Agatha Chistie's book. Totally worth watching and will make a good movie night, big screen and popcorn kind of movie. I guessed the killer very early in the movie, but wife could not believe it until the final showdown.

Hmm....I haven't heard of that one so will have to check it out.
Does he take out shvthead antagonists?....that will likely determine my interest level.

There's a new one coming out called "Nobody".
It appears this may be a good one....this trailer sets it up.

You can try avoiding, but if it comes your way and you can't dodge, won't be a big deal, eh.

good acting by Michael Shannon. I actually sympathized his character. I think the rewards were a bit off the mark, nothing against Richard Jenkins or Sally but Michael Shannon being sidelined in awards nominations was completely unjustified. And then again, movie wasn't collecting awards for nothing.

Not a Movie but "American Playboy" the Amazon miniseries about Hugh Heffner, is really really good. It's so good because it doesn't really focus on him, but the events that shaped Playboy, with plenty of original videos and interviews from the actual people involved, including Hef.

There was plenty of naked Playmates but my Wife watched the whole thing at my side just because it offered such a great glimpse into attitudes about Vietnam, Civil Rights, Feminism etc.

I had access to almost a full a Playboy collection in the 90's and went through decades of mags just reading the fiction. The concept of a tinfoil hat came from a playboy fiction story. Hunter S. Thompson was a Playboy fiction writer.

    Captain Fantastic Netflix

Not sure why it has that title but a fantastic flick for anyone remotely interested in hippie/counterculture stuff, funny with some touching moments.

    Parker Netflix

Never watched Jason Stratham before, great robbery flick, great action.

    No Escape Netflix

Was initially not thrilled with Owen Wilson in a dramatic role, he's an Expatriate (American sent to work in a foreign country) when the Govt. of that country is overthrown. 10/10 story/acting/action, this will keep you glued to your seat, great flick.

    I Care a Lot Netflix

Good story, interesting villain, good waste of time.

    Django Unchained Netflix

Discussed below, thanks for the rec, I really enjoyed it.

I'll plan to check out Captain Fantastic and No Escape. They've both been on my watchlist for years.

I finally watched Cool Hand Luke. I could definitely see people finding this movie a little slow or boring, but it had a lot of meaning in it that I can relate to, so I enjoyed it 8/10. Great cinematography as well. On Netflix.

I also see Dances With Wolves is on Netflix, and I haven't seen that in ages and plan to watch.

The Hunt which is the movie that was pulled from release last yr due to so much discussion over it's storyline of left vs right and the right wing really cried yet I don't see why after seeing it? In the end the right wing woman wins and I thought it was a pretty good watch. Stereotypical & I laughed at a few of the headshots and other stuff and being right leaning I found it enjoyable.

I have to go along with Parker also. The plot of the original caper and the big one later, I thought were well planned. I'm not a big JLo fan but thought she played her part well. I loved the ending. "Oh, just some papers,"

    Just watched "Death Wish" (2018)

Remake of THE 1974 Charles Bronson's vigilante movie.

The location is Chicago this time, a familiar one for me watching from ER & Third Watch, Chicago PD, -Fire, -MD.

I have a wife and s daughter, there're nothing more important in my life.

So the first third was nothing but a pure pain and sorrow.

The middle third was nothing but a pure rage.

Then the last third...YES, you should watch this one yourself.

I enjoyed it (Captain Fantastic) just lol when they go to town and the kids ask if everyone is sick.

Dances With Wolves Although a few cheesy moments, I felt like this movie has really held up well. Always worth a re-watch.

Trial of the Chicago 7 This one was pretty dang good, good acting lineup too and it's very relatable to current times, probably why they made the movie.

    I agree....

    I watched it last night.
Being a Peter Dinklage fan of sorts I decided to give it a view.
I recall him mostly as a bad guy in "Lone Wolf McQuade" and a character study loner in 'The Station Agent".

That Rosamund Pike sure can play a treacherous, heartless bvtch with little effort.
The ending had a couple of surprise moments.
    It kept me interested.

I do look forward to the new "Death Wish" and another called "I Am Nobody". (or, just "Nobody")
I'll have to wait for Netflix to offer them up.

    Have a great weekend everyone....

He's the real deal, he suffered early in his career because he would never accept an oompa loompa type of role, only a role where his size made the writers scratch their heads, he's scratched a few million into his pockets by his solid acting so far.
