Dragged Across Concrete, Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn, good movie, 8/10. Same director that did Bone Tomahawk and Brawl in Cell Block 99, promising young director that's putting out unique films. Not your run of the mill trash that's flooding the movie industry.

Repped but it's 8$ to stream. Don't mind paying 4$ for a good flick, no way I'll pay $8

Alright so I got around to finishing it, sorry it took 8 years, been busy.

Starts out like a great zombie/survival movie, morphs into a weird superhero/antihero movie and then ends like a termimantor movie. Not sure where they were going with this but it pretty much sucks.

Venom - As Marvel superhero movies go, not the worst, probably because I prefer anti-heroes to super goodie goodie heroes. The logic is a little iffy, with this blob from space that goes from being mindless goo to talking and turning into super armour, and puppeteering a human. The logic of the bad guy is also on shaky ground: he wants to extend life so he experiments with the alien goo that for all he knows can only kill people horribly. But once you can get past those 2 things, it's pretty entertaining, sometimes funny, so it's not a complete waste of time. Tom Hardy is always good in whatever role you put him.

Aquaman - Take out the hunky guy and it's pretty boilerplate superhero stuff. Atlantis reminded me a lot of Pandora in Avatar. There's the obligatory hottie for the obligatory love story even though both have the personality of a lump of clay, but they are hot, so they clearly have to fall for each other. Aquaman, aside from having very little personality, doesn't come across as very bright either, so the whole thing about the good guys willing to die for him becoming the king of Atlantis doesn't ring very true. But he's hot and who doesn't want a hot king, right?

    Thumbs up

    The Highwaymen

On Netflix, stars Kevin Costner & Woody Harrelson, tells the story of former Texas Rangers on the hunt for Bonnie & Clyde. Really happy with the acting, story flows well and is engaging even when there's not a lot going on. This is one where you're like "is this the story or based on a true story" but they tie that up pretty well in the end. If you don't need non stop action with blood and guts this is well worth the 90 minutes or so.

Shazam, i'm a little conflicted on this as it was an enjoyable watch but the ending left me a little lukewarm and he is just learning his powers so to go up against the villain he did just didn't work for me.

Saw Venom on Starz (free preview weekend) tonight. We both enjoyed it. Tom Hardy brought it home. Good blend of one liners and action.

Hellboy...two enthusiastic thumbs up. I haven't seen any of the earlier stuff and knew nothing of the character but I enjoyed this movie a lot as did my wife. Good story, excellent effects, killer monsters, soundtrack kicked ass too.

Saw Deadpool 2 yesterday. I enjoyed it at least as much as the first one. It’s wrong on so many levels, that I just can’t help but like it. Got a little sad at the end with his girlfriend. No spoiler, fairly predictable, but I liked what they did with it.

Watching one of the planet of the apes movies right now. It’s the one with Woody Harrelson in it. Not sure why, but it’s just not that interesting to me.

Downloaded that for a plane ride last weekend. It had great reviews and I was really looking forward to it, but I also found it just "meh". Plus it's almost a message film: apes are compassionate, love their families (lots of slow time on this), and just want to live in peace, while humans are sadistic and evil. They were clearly going for a WWII analogy. There were Nazi concentration camps for the apes and Woody is the Hitler figure.

Rented recently I Feel Pretty. Loved it! Adorable and funny, if you like Amy Schumer, give it a look. Although, it is hit or miss with her, imo sometimes.

It received bad reviews oddly enough, which makes me wonder if the critics are wrong or if I like bad movies?

Yup, some pretty clear political references in there.

I would have been fine even at that, had it been even a little bit interesting.

The Survivalist. I have mixed feeling about this movie. Acting is excellent, I must say I don't know any actors in that movie but they all played their characters very believably. Rotten Tomatoes give this movie a pretty high review. First 20 minutes was nothing short of spectacular. But, the story line developed into something idiotic IMO. Humanity is much better than what is shown, seriously. Simple gardening is shown all wrong, decision-making and moral choices are all wrong. Too much unnecessary nudity, I can't believe I say it, but it is too much and all in wrong places.

Finally got around to seeing Captain Marvel, just to see what the hoo-ha was all about. Friggin' ileitis sucks, so this was the first time for me to go out in a while.

Not overwhelmed or underwhelmed, just...whelmed. Good special effects, not much character building for the lead, Samuel L. Jackson is fine, and the cat is cute. Otherwise, I found it not as good as the other Marvel movies, like Ironman. Not even as good as Wonder Woman, and that flick had flaws, too. Still loved it, though, as did my wife.

Waiting on Shazam...hasn't come here yet.

    The Silence, on Netflix.

First half of the movie is a frustratingly recognizable conglomeration of other movies.

At one point I did a complete 180 and thought it was Stephen King quality writing, right about then the writers give up and close it with a frustrating open ended Red Dawn/Hunger Games type ending. Worth watching, especially since Netflix just jacked our bill up another 5 bucks a month.

Contagion. I've watched this movie before but saw it again, recently. It was really good but it dragged a bit. Basically, the plot deals with an unknown virus that kills people within a few days. It's spreading fast, globally, and if you're a germaphobe, this movie might send you over the edge. Did you know that most people touch their face on average, 2000-3000 times per day?

    Bohemian Rhapsody

I am a huge fan of the music of Queen and consider Freddie Mercury one of the greatest performers of all times, so I was steering away of this movie to avoid disappointment. I shouldn't have. The movie was excellent.

I liked the fact it concentrated on the music rather than dwelling too much on gossip stuff. It's not very historically accurate, but I personally didn't care.

Casting was excellent and Rami Malek did a stunning job as Freddie, kudos to him, absolutely deserved Oscar. The casting for Brian May was also 100% spot on.

There's a really funny part about recording the song "Bohemian Rhapsody" that is just priceless ("Galileooooooo").

The movie ends with a jaw dropping recreation of Queen's performance at Live Aid, considered the best musical performance ever. As the credits were rolling, I found the real footage online and watched it, and the movie really recreated it down to the smallest detail. Really impressive. And yes, if you have some spare time, find it online and watch it.

If there's one regret I have is to have never been able to see Queen live. Fans of Queen should definitely check it out, and you younglings that don't know much about Queen should watch it too and maybe they'll become fans.

On your recommendation, I watched it yesterday. Pretty good. I think you'd get a kick out of the first one with Ron Perlman as Hellboy. I really liked it and got into a little trouble on the forum from paraphrasing some of his memorable lines.
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

It's easy to not be afraid of tigers when you're sitting in your living room watching a television program about tigers. When you're in the jungle where the tigers are, it's quite a different story.

    Generation Iron 3

On Netflix. This one delves into the international bb'ing scene, some interesting stuff there, like the Iranian BB'er who can't compete in the US due to political tensions. Has a nice update in what Kai is up to, he seems to have mellowed a lot. Some good dialogue with Pro & Ex Pro guys communing on Physique. I hadn't realized that the Physique guys are pretty freaking big these days. Definitely worth a watch if you have any interest in the sport.

Another positive vote for The Highwaymen. My wife and I watched it last night and it's very good. I looked for some books on Frank Hamer and they're VERY EXPENSIVE now on eBay. They were probably <$10 a year ago with free shipping I did find one at my local library but I had to get on a waiting list to read it.
