I'll give you Rogers.. but it depends on the path the other takes to win.

A win Over AA/Sergei + Barnett + Overeem or Fedor = would still equal #1 Ranking.
If its a win over AA/Sergei + Rogers + Silva = Good, but not # 1.

So if Arlovski pulls that off by some miracle, he would be Top 5 for sure, but not #1 imo. That's just too big of a jump considering he's on a 3 fight losing streak and unranked. Plus AA would almost certainly still lose to Cain, JDS and Overeem/Fedor (whichever he doesn't beat in the GP).

I don't disagree with the opinion that Cain/JDS/Fedor/Overeem would most likely beat him. However, I'm just saying in terms of ranking the current number #1 fighter, based on the accomplishments of the past 12 months, AA winning 3 straight over Sergei, Barnett, and Fedor in an 8 month period would throw him right up there. Compound that with inactivity we will see from Cain, JDS, Lesnar, and Carwin I don't see how you could say AA wouldn't be the top ranked HW. I wouldn't say he is the best HW, the most talented,or the best potential.. but based everyone's resume over the time preceding, he would be the number one ranked.

Kind of like how I don't think Lesnar or Werdum are better than Carwin or Fedor, but I can't argue that they aren't currently higher ranked.

The guy fights 1 or 2 times a year. No way he is fighting 3 times in 8 months. He is the reason i dont see this tournament being anything other then a joke. Isnt he only contracted for 1 more fight with strikeforce?

Dana would say no one in the tournament was top ten, so the winner is just the best fighter not in the top 10

And that may be true. But assuming everything goes according to schedule, the winner will most likely be the top ranked HW in the world.

depends on who they end up fighting and whether or not Cain & JDS square off before the tournament is completed. However, if the tournament basically goes chalk, I'd be inclined to agree.

No, because he'd be fighting on the weaker side of the bracket, and his losses to Rogers and Big Foot are both still recent. He'd definitely climb up a lot though.

lol at ppl that think if fedor wins this he still wont be undisputed #1... other than getting overconfident and getting caught in a top level submission artist's guard, he has an unblemished career. Then he plougs through a dangerous silva... a seemingly unstoppable overeem, and former pride champ barnett to become SF champ and he's still not #1?

At the time Fedor fought Sylvia, Tim was coming off of a loss from Nog over the UFC interim HW. Safe to say Tim was top 5 when he fought Fedor?

the tourney *IS* on an 8 month time slot, no more. thats why they have alternates fighting to take the place if a fighter becomes injured.

Fujita, Randleman, Rogers, etc. Fedor has been in danger of losing more than once...

He's also lost rounds fairly often, he isn't some round winning machine. He mostly has so many wins because he is able to finish so well.
