I've been running alot lately and I'm looking for some really lightweight comfortable shoes.
I'm also going to the Police Academy in a couple of months so I'm needing to get some..
Anyone have any recommendations on specific shoes or brands?

I do a bit of running myself and by far the best shoes I use are the Nike Free 7.0. They are a minimal shoe and superlite. At your weight though I may go for the Nike LunarGlides as they offer a little more support. I used them when I started my quest to run 1000 miles in Afghanistan. My starting weight was 215. Now I am at 198 and have been in the Fly's for about 2 months and love them.
Good luck at the Academy.*Lone Star Crew*

I'm a newbie to running and plan to start in February. I've been doing treadmill work in the meantime just to get used to long bouts of walking. Those Nike Free 7.0 shoes look tempting, but it appears they have like a deep recess in the middle, or perhaps are thicker on the outsides of the soles. Any ideas for a good beginner running shoe?

I have some Mizunos - they're very light, keep your feet aired and help if you have slight overpronation problems. On top of all that, because they're quite new to the running market the prices are good (in the UK, don't know how it is in the US).
Can't go wrong with Asics, New Balance or Mizunos.
Best thing to do is go to a running shop and get your gait analysed.

if your going to do a lot of running like daily
or just plain long distance running
get any running shoe with a gray shaded area under the arch on the sides of the soles. All running shoes from any company with that gray shaded area will have super high arch support and u will help so much with running. And less pain afterward, especially if you have semi flat feet or flat feet.
and all running shoes are light...

I fully agree with this advice. The belief that any shoe purchased off-the-shelf will do can lead to an injury or uncomfortable running. For example, Brooks has shoes for Neutral, Guidance, Support, and Control. The right type depends on your individual running mechanics that a competent specialty running store should be able to advise.

i run collegiately so i hope my advice helps. it seems that your a slighlyt bigger guy and a begginer runner. therefore, i suggest getting a shoe that has alot of cushining (to put less pressure on your joints) and good motion control (to counter-effect pronation)
if u go to a specialty running store, they'd definatly be able to find the best shoe for u.
the highest quality shoe that most runners use are asics. and for u, i suggest the asics nimbus, it has a lot of the qualities that you will be looking for as a begining runner/slightly bigger guy.
hope this helps!Muscle - pieces of rubber. All that I am, I am because of my mind.

Best kind I've found hands down was new balance. Particularly the 8519's or others in the series. I spent $250 on Nike runners and got a huge blister on one foot and the back of my heel on the other foot went raw. Took um back to the store and told the guys what happened and that I wanted something better. There response from the guy was "Ooooooooooooooooo.... you went running in those!" I was quite surprised since they were advertised as Nike runners so what else would they be for. Basically Nike makes shoes that look cool but performance wise they suck. Least to say they gave me my money back and I got New Balance runners and been in love with them for 4 years now. Asics and Saucony I hear is other good brand names. I suggest staying clean of brand hyped shoes and look for ones geared mainly towards running shoes.
