I know right? When I watch some other posing routines, the certain bodybuilder would be ready to hit his BDB shot, the camera is right there, and the second he hits it....there goes the camera angle. It's really stupid if you ask me, you can't even freaking see anything, especially with a physique like Shawn's, you just have to see it.

I don't wanna be harsh and Shawn Ray's physique was great (despite that i don't like it) but i agree with Reisinger here. Many people are not taking into account that his physique only looks slightly better here because brightness, contrast and colors are all messed up and adjusted in this vid which makes him look ultra grainy.
1999 wasn't even his best, wanna see his best look it up for 93 to 96.John "The pro architect" Hollywood

IMO it is the same when poeple post this Levrone vid from the British GP even though you COULD make a point that this was one of Levrone's best showings. Lighting made his physique better than it really was and furthermore he did not look impressive any more as soon as he stood next to Coleman. Another similarity is that both Levrone and Ray were far from winning these contests, yet these vids still are posted a million times although there have been much better showings of certain bodybuilders.

Don't get me wrong, his physique was flawless and his conditioning 95% of the times was something marvelous to look at.
In my opinion he lacked the freak factor, nothing would really stand out (this can be seen as flaw or a quality actually) but to me if i would to nit point, i never really liked the shape of his delts specially in certain poses like most variants of the Most Muscular.
I think he could use a little more rear-delt size to give him more of a capped look to his delts, a little more hamstring drop as well to upset his spectacular quads (specially the tear drops).
Really not much would need to be changed in his physique other than size but when he tried that his conditioning suffered.
I prefer physiques in bodybuilding more Levrone/Wheeler/Heath esque, not to say Shawn's physique was worse just not of my preference in my eyes.John "The pro architect" Hollywood

thanks guys, just trying to get a feel for what would not be good in someone's eyes, looking at Shawn.
now, looking at this video just posted before, to me, in my humble opinion, not having an outrageous or stand out part is a strength, in that, everything is balanced out a bit.
as this video shows....
for example: Branch Warren has a standout part: his legs!, but when he loses, many will say that his arms are still not the equal of these other parts, so, I just feel that having a real standout part is fine, but upsets overall balance

I agree 100% Otis.
I think it can be seen as a strength in that, if you are nearly perfectly balanced, you are going to go very far, and place very high at the Olympia. But... it is very very hard to win being perfectly balanced, IMO. In the top 6 at the O, being balanced won't necessarily beat out these other guys.
If you look at all the Mr. Olympias in history, most are not as balanced as guys like Shawn. There are the few exceptions like Dexter, but for the most part, the Mr. Os had a couple exceptional bodyparts that really stood out (Arnold: Chest and Bis, Dorian: Back, Jay: Quads)
And I think at that level, without something truly freaky, it's hard to win.Bench: 215x12 (17/12/2011) PR since torn RC

Davis, you are exactly right. That's why Shawn never won is because Dorian just flat out beat everybody with his back. Levrone was the only person that was close IMO. To be honest, I liked Shawn's physique more than Levrone's, like when Kevin does a most muscular (hands clasped together), his triceps have a pointed shape, I just never liked the shape of his triceps. Delts were great though.
Oh and I didn't post the video to say "Shawn Ray was robbed!", I just thought the posing was awesome, and his physique was good as well. I'm not trying to get anything stirred up guys, sorry if I am.Last edited by Bobby1291; 12-24-2010 at 07:34 AM.
