What food can I purchase for very cheap yet still be very healthy?

I want food that's good for fat burning and muscle building and full of nutrients yet not super expensive. I have been purchasing a lot of

Tuna and Pink Salmon in Foil Pouches by Chicken of the Sea. 94-98cents per pouch
    Frozen Fruit by Dole
    Frozen Vegetables by Green Giant
Natural Deli Sandwich Meat by Hormel
100% whole grain bread to make sandwiches
    organic milk
    natural cheese slices
    kashi golean cereal
and then of course protein shakes

so mainly my diets been cereal, sandwich, protein shakes and veggies/fruit inbetween. with juices and lots of water and supplements. but i am interested to know is that a good plan and also what is very cheap but healthy at the grocery stores? i am trying to not spend so much

add eggwhites to anything your going to be cooking on the stove, since its tasteless.. not much to worry about.

also, if you do ever eat them alone, just scramble them with some vegetables or make an omelete

personally, i dont prefer the yolk

You can buy many things that are inexpensive. Just need to be "aware".

Cut coupons, look for deals, and shop at Costco/Sam's Club (if available).

    Eggs
    Oats
    Chicken Breasts
    Tilapia Filets
    Peanut Butter (good peanut butter...)
    Tuna
    Sweet Potatoes

    Those are my staples :P

Other than that try to buy fresh foods that aren't pre-prepared. You pay a lot for the preparation of dishes. Buy loads of fresh veggies and go to town.

one of my favorite meals is grilling up a bunch of veggies in a skillet and then adding 5-6 whole eggs and then another 3-4 eggs worth of egg whites and cooking it up. My wife and I love it and it can't get much healthier or cheaper for a quality meal.

Egg Whites, if you get bored put a little shredded cheese to add some flavor, and not too many calories.

    cheap foods are -

All home brand kind of things like -

Oats, eggs, milk, dried fruits even nuts are so much cheaper when its bought with the generic brand
    - If you can't explain it simply, then you don't understand it well enough.

My staples are: Whole milk, eggs, oats, rice, frozen veggies, V8, canned fish. I think most people could afford such a diet, since I manage it just fine as a college student.
