Bethesda Softworks just announced the fifth game in the Elder Scrolls series and the sequel to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be called Skyrim. And it'll be out next year.

Bethesda's Todd Howard introduced the game with a brief teaser showing a stone dragon and a dramatic narration that sets up the story of the next big role-playing game in the Elder Scrolls series. That teaser also dates Skyrim for November 11, 2011.

It'll be using an improved upon Gamebryo engine, so yes it's the same.

If they use the same enemy leveling system (all enemies dynamically level according to your character), Bethesda can resign as a game designer.

I went and got my nerd on back when oblivion came out and got the 50/50 achievements...I will damn sure buy this when it comes out and take a few vacation days (srs)

I can't imagine how amazing the game design will be considering what they were able to do back in 2006 with oblivion.

Forgive me if I'm not as knowledgeable about Elder Scrolls lore, but Skyrim is the northern snowy continent correct? I was always under the impression that the next game would be in Sumerset Isles (sp?) and have a pretty varied landscape. Not that I'm complaining mind you, I just hope the whole game isn't ALL snow covered mountains. I'm sure I'll love it regardless though.

If they keep the gameplay of Oblivion (combat etc.) but get rid of that retarded leveling system, this will be awesome.

I actually didnt know you had to "sleep" to level up in Oblivion. Brb spending 2 weeks as level one then going to level 15 once I finally discover the secret.

And this too. Exploring always ended up being a frustrating waste of time in Oblivion. The only times I got something worthwhile was the Daedra Lord quests.

I also like how in morrowind there were items worth like 500,000 and really rare valuable stuff but in oblivion the rarest most expensive thing was like 5k

The animators need to be fired seriously.
The characters in Oblivion and Fallout look ugly as **** too. Hopefully they'll get there **** together.
