If programs don't matter, why is it important to stick to one?

Sheiko 30 Week 1 Day 1
Paused Bench
barx25
135x5
155x5
185x2x4
215x2x3
245x5x3
Front Squat
barx10
135x5
185x3
225x5x3
Paused Bench
155x5
185x5
215x4x5 <-skipped one set here. my shoulders were destroyed after the front squats
Leg Press
2 sets of 10 <-should have done more since this is the 2nd round squats according to sheiko but i was too hungry and tired.
****ing brutal day mainly because of the front squats. they just take everything out of me every single time but i guess that means they're good. i also skipped the core work.
i tried back squatting with 135 for 5 and that still hurt my back. im going to the chiropractor tomorrow. i have to get back to back squatting asap before i forget how to back squat. my right rotator cuff was bothering me a lot today too. after this meet i believe im gonna lay off sheiko for a long while.
all in all not a perfect day but at least i got 99% of my bench work in. as long as i get my bench work and deadlift work in im good.Last edited by martin_mathers; 07-04-2011 at 11:19 AM.

thanks!
just came home from the chiropractor. he touched me and i touched him and we had some fun.
so i injured the joints between the ribs and the spine. theres some fancy name for the joints that i cant remember. my flexibility of those joints is restricted and thats one of the reasons why i injured them. there are some other reasons too but i just had no idea what he was saying. but he's dealt with a lot of sports injuries theres also this picture of some famous NHL player on his wall so i trust him. he did some ART and adjustments on me and right now my back feels kinda sore but i guess thats the purpose.
what i have to do from now on according to him:
no more foam rolling for the back
no more contrast shower
no more squatting of course
as much icing as possible
and no more deadlifting
too bad i have 20 sets of deadlifts tomorrow and i will finish them. but i will try icing and take a break from foam rolling and contrast shower. My training log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=129669663

i meant half-naked lol.
late-night random thoughts:
its summer and a lot of people that i know like "summer resolutions". and often times one of them is "working out". being the biggest and the strongest guy at my school (i go to a nerd school), a lot of my friends start texting me or messaging me on ******** asking me how to get big, even those "friends" that i havent talked to in probably 3 years. and their questions are always "give me your routine" or "how much protein powder do you take". i dont blame them for their ignorance because everyone has to start somewhere. so i take my time and explain to them how to properly work out and that they should be eating real food. then their first response is always "no i need protein powder". then they ask me where do i get my protein and ask for my routine once again. then i explain to them again the importance of eating real food and lifting properly.
after 1 or 2 weeks some of them will tell me "oh theres no way im gonna be big i was born skinny" and they just sit at home and procrastinate. the problem is they dont have specific goals. getting big is not a goal. working out is not a goal. and they think lifting is easy. when they go the gym they just go through the motions. after 1 week they expect 20-inch arms and 8-pack abs. they dont understand that powerlifting/bodybuilding/weightlifting or any kind of lifting in general is a grind. it takes time. its the grind that builds character. you have to pay your dues.
their lack of patience makes me think of my recent injury. on the day that i re-injured my back i expected it to heal the next day. and every day since then i expect my back to be 100% the next day. i went back and read my log and i found out i've only laid of heavy squatting for 12 days. and i still did some light squats in those 12 days. i forgot that powerlifting was a grind. you cant expect yourself to total 2000 raw tomorrow, and i cant expect my back to heal right now. i cant describe how terrible i felt when i first went back to the gym and found out i couldnt even squat the bar because of the immense pain in my back. i thought it was the end of the world. then what did i do? i squatted heavy the same week and ignored the pain. thats exactly what i had done the first time i injured my back a year ago.
when something terrible happens to us, we tend to make decisions to remedy the situation immediately. and those decisions are often wrong. something i've learnt from all this bullcrap is that your situation may not be as terrible as you think it is. when something terrible happens, just calm down, do the right thing and be patient. give time time.
cliffs:
- friends want to get big
- friends like protein powder
- friends quit working out after a week
- lifting is a grind
- grind builds character
- patience is important
- when you're injured, give it some time
- im still gonna deadlift tomorrowMy training log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=129669663

Today was an awesome day.
Sheiko 30 Week 1 Day 2
Sumo Deadlifts
135x2x5
185x5
225x4
265x2x4
305x2x3
350x5x3
decided to switch to sumo to save myself from back pain. it went very well i just think i was a little bit slow off the floor. after i work on that i'll be gold.
Paused Bench
barx20
135x5
155x5
185x5
215x2x4
230x2x3
245x2x2
260x2x1
245x1 <- was supposed to do 2 reps but i was really tired. i lowered my bench base max from 305 to 295 starting from here.
235x2
225x2x3
205x4
185x6
165x8
155x10
135x12
Sumo Block Pulls (mid-shin)
265x5
205x2x3
350x3x3 <- ripped my left hand after the 2nd set. nothing too serious though.
390x4x2 <- back pain started to arise but thats after 20+ sets. way better than conventional.
Leg extensions
50 reps
Decline situps
2 sets of 15
a very very solid workout today. it took me exactly 4 hours to finish all the sets and i did not eat anything throughout the workout. thats an all-time PR right there. the sumo deadlifts were awesome for my back because i almost did not have to use my back at all. also, sumo block pulls are so much easier than conventional block pulls. i will stick to sumo deads for a while. i just have to improve the speed off the floor.
my bench base max will float around 295-305 depending on how i feel throughout the workout. on easy days it will stay at 305. on bench marathon days i will lower it to 295 whenever i feel like i cant complete all the sets.
going to the chiro tomorrow again. hopefully he wont find out what i did today.

i read that entire paragraph, and its so true, about everything. i even had a few friends asking me for advice believe it or not. all they focus on is eating protein, i dont think they understand the importance of calories in general. and they always think just because there eating a lot of protein they can just gain muscle and eat nothing else and lose fat. i also used to have back problems. i dont have them anymore (knock on wood) and i kept on rushing back to squatting and it totally tore me apart and i ended up taking like a month off squats, feels horrible. you still had an awesome workout today martin, and it sounds like your back is getting better, or your aggrevating it less, either way it seems to be making good progress. ever considered tkaing contrast showers? i heard there really good for back injuries, and getting rid of soreness. i like to take them after i lift because it just helps me cool down in general. very refreshing.

wow really? i dunno i think im a little bit paranoid about my squat going straight downhill. might sound ridiculous but its affecting my sleep. no sh!t.
i actually did try them but its so hard to balance on 1 leg. for the coming few no-squatting weeks i'll just do bodybuilding type work for my legs. and update your friggin log bro did you get the 405 dead? i want vidzzzMy training log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=129669663

i forgot to tell you. i ended up squatting 335x2 and benching 190x2. epic fukking fail much? lol yes, horrible workout, not even gonna update as lame as it sounds, didnt go for the 4 plate pull either. i had enough fails for the night. im gonna re do this week of madcows. i honestly think it had to do with my legs and shoulders being really sore from GPP.

thanks!
normally one workout takes 2.5 hours for me. yesterday i took so much longer because im running a cycle with the highest volume of all rated cycles. and i was taking sometime to figure out the sumos because it was my first time doing them. but some people do split up one workout into two sessions within a day because they're so long.
just went to the chiro again and my back is feeling awesome. he gave me some weird massages and hooked my back to a machine. now im all loosened up.My training log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=129669663
