Thanks to Double T for the privilege of trying their product: GlutaCene
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I received my tub of Strawberry flavored GlutaCene this week and figured I would start my log with a fresh week tomorrow, but since Sunday is my rest day I thought I'd get the thread up and ready to post tomorrow's workout and introduce myself.
A little about me:
I am 43 years old, twice divorced with 3 awesome kids, and I live with my girlfriend Lisa and her teenage son. We've been together 5 wonderful years, and she posts here under he username LisaSkinnoble.
We both started training together in January of this year. Me after 7 years away from the gym, and her having never trained before in her life. We hit the gym weekdays at 5:30am before work, and on Saturday afternoons.
I worked out with weights off and on as a teen, then joined the local community center gym when I was bout 20. It closed for a couple of weeks for renovations, and while it was shut down I trained at Powerhouse Gym in Toronto. When the community center opened back up I never went back. I bailed on my training partner and joined Powerhouse. I trained steady there from 1988 until 2000.
I then moved and joined a 'family fitness' type gym near work and trained there for another year or two, until I bought some equipment and set up a home gym in a spare bedroom. With the birth of my 3rd son my gym became a nursery, and I gave away my equipment and never joined back at the gym. Fast forward over a bunch of drama and I never set foot in a gym again until January 2010.
I started off fat and weak and tipping the scales at nearly 250 lbs. My strength came back fairly quickly though, and I leaned out to about 226 by the end of July while putting on some decent muscle. I've since focused less on losing fat and more on gaining strength and size, and I've gained back 5 lbs.
My training style and routine
I tend to lift heavy with low rep ranges on most exercises. Squats and deads I do lots of singles and triples. Most other exercises I do 6-8 reps. The number 6 will be typed a lot in this journal. Finishing exercises, calves, and leg press I tend to use higher rep ranges (10-15).
I'm known for doing a high volume type of workout, hence the joke in the title of this thread. On finishing exercises I might do 4 sets, but most everything else I will do 6-8 sets, except for deads and squats which are almost ridiculous sometimes. You'll see what I mean as we get rolling here.
I've never used any type of prescribed training program; I do my own thing. I set up a basic program and tend to stick with it more or less, but change things up as required due to boredom, lack of progress, injuries, broken equipment, etc.
My basic routine is as follows:
Monday - Back & Chest (Back first)
Tuesday - Legs (focus on Squats)
Wednesday - Shoulders & Traps
Thusday - Chest & Back (Chest first)
Friday - Deadlifts and Legs (no squats; usually hack squats or leg press)
Saturday - Arms
Sunday - Rest Day
Well, I think that's pretty much it for my intro.
Anything else you want to know, just ask.
Thanks again to Double T, fitnessman and StlBarbie.

Oh, one more thing; I am currently struggling with some tendonitis in my left elbow and right shoulder, so things may vary somewhat for the next while as I work through these issues.
Lately I have been skipping a lot of chest & shoulder work and increasing the back and leg work.
I start physio for the shoulder this Wednesday, so hopefully things will get back to normal soon. The elbow situation comes and goes, and most times it's not an issue except on arm day; barbell curls really aggravate it, so sometimes they get dropped from my routine.

Squats: Currently chasing a 5 plate squat. Best squat to date is 435 for a 1 rep max, ATG.
Bench Press: No goals here due to shoulder injury. Stay tuned.

Cool.
O Hai there.
First workout in about 10 hours.
Mixed my first serving of GlutaCene (2 scoops) in 500mL of water and it's in the fridge. I usually bring a bottle of G2, but from now on this will be my intra-workout drink of choice.

Week 1, Day 1 - Back & Chest
I think today was a pretty good start to this log, and it should give you all a good taste of what to expect here, for those that have not followed my regular journal.
Speaking of taste, I did try the Glutacene during my workout today, which is why we're here, right? It was pretty good, and refreshing. My energy and stamina were solid throughout my workout, right to the end. Felt strong, pumped, and solid.
Shoulder didn't bother me one bit, but my elbow squawked quite a bit. I chose to ignore it though.
As I have done since my shoulder injury I focused more on back, and only did some pec deck for chest. For some reason it doesn't aggravate my shoulder. But if my shoulder feels this good on Thursday, I will try some pressing again.
Here's what I accomplished today:
Hammer Strength Plate Loaded Iso-Lateral Low Row
45 per side x 15
90 per side x 12
135 per side x 10
180 per side x 8
205 per side x 6
205 per side x 6
205 per side x 6
205 per side x 6
205 per side x 6
205 per side x 6
180 per side x 10
Super Wide Grip T-Bar Rows
135 x 10
180 x 6
180 x 6
180 x 6
180 x 6
180 x 6
180 x 6
180 x 8
180 x 8
Close Grip Pulldowns
210 x 6
210 x 6
210 x 6
210 x 6
210 x 6
210 x 6
Cybex Lat Pulldowns (Single Arm)
110 x 10
110 x 10
110 x 10
110 x 10
Pec Deck
255 x 15
^^^ Whoa. 3 plates away from the whole stack and still 15 reps.
255 x 12
255 x 12
255 x 12
255 x 12
That's it.
Happy Monday.

I like the strawberry taste, but the Wildberry's my favorite. How did it mix for you? I saw that you let it sit in the fridge for a while. I usually mix it about 20 minute prior to my workout and that seems to be the perfect amount of time to get it good and dissolved.

I train at 5:30am, and I don't think my brain is fully awake until 3rd or 4th set of my first exercise, so I try to leave as little as possible to do in the morning, less I forget.
Hmmm....intersting....maybe Friday night.
Thanks baby!
It is pretty good, IMHO too.
Gotta step into a meeting. Will update with today's workout shortly.
