Thanks guys. I never felt right squatting in this environmemt in that monolift (i walked out and i might have been the only one... they thought i was being dumb i think). But i recovered enough to make 8/9 lifts on the day and get a total. I literally just finished so its been a long day. I actually felt better deadlifting than squatting. But i guess thats to be expected after having an incident like that.
Squat- 455/485/500
Bench- 315/335/350 (miss)
Deadlift- 465/500/515 (PR)
So a 1350 total. Ill take it for a 1st meet.
Archduke is about to open with a 425 dl. hes a strong guy @ 160 lb's. i think hes looking at a 1100'ish total.

yeah my brother was supposed to get all the vids, but you can't get 18 year old kids to do sh!t without telling them every little thing lol. the kid recorded the misload, and then asked him if he got the other squats, and he said "no one told me to." wtf? lol
I bet you were tired as hell at the party, we were dead after the meet. damn near 11 hr meet.Training Journal:

^ I knew I was taking a liberty with it when I threw Shrugs in there. One of the things I think I learned is that I don't have to DL to progress my DL. And I honestly felt I could have DL even more than I did. But on my 2nd lift my grip slip a little... So I was worried to go more than the 515. Anyway I figured Power Shrugs would be a good way to get my grip up to par.
Btw I am still really sore. All over. Hamstrings, upper back/traps, etc... That's expected though when you don't DL, but show up at a meet and DL I guess.

Well, I seriously only do 2 sets of shrugs. I also do Facepulls, but I do those for my rear delts, though the traps get some work too.
I don't advise not to deadlift. As my partner says I only deadlift 600 cause I don't train my deadlift. In other words, I'd be pulling a heck of a lot more if I did. I'll see how my back is doing in a few months and MAYBE I'll put some deadlifting in. Even if its just rack pulls. Though, then again, maybe not...
For grip, all I do is do higher rep heavy dumbbell rows. I TRY to get 12 on each set, though doesn't always work out. But just 3 sets. Seems to be helping my grip alot,as well as keeping my back big.Crom Laughs....
So, how long are you gonna keep powerlifting?
- Until they drain my blood out and fill me with embalming fluid I'm gonna do this....

Cool.
I actually came to the no DL conclusion on my own after I hurt my back for the second time. In 4 months or so I think I did speed deads once and worked up to 455 once. Both times was to see if my back was ok. I didn't want to pay my entry fees and travel all the way there and start warming up for DL's and my back give out.
But somewhere in there I realized that by training my squat I'm already training the DL to a degree. I'll just keep telling myself "If I can squat it, I can DL it," until that doesn't work anymore.

You could maybe try and just set up a 2 week split and then rotate between heavish singles and reps
Week 1 - Shrugs
Week 2 - Deadlift movement (def, regular, rack pull, etc..) to a heavy single
Week 3 - Shrugs
Week 4 - Deadlift movement up to a set of 5
Both of you blow me out of the water in lifting heavy crap so.............

EDIT: KK is a big fan of using the trap bar in his deadlift routine and that's a bit easier on your lower back....just throwin that out there for more confusion.....err....discussionBetter Body Sports

I do like the idea of some trap bar DL's on occasion... Now that this meet is over I'm focused on dropping some weight too so I could see myself doing something simple like 531 BBB... We'll see how it goes. Another thing I believe I learned (One of the upsides of being a little slow is there's plenty to learn from every experience ) was I don't have to be on a "program" all the time. 18 mo ago I did SS for 8 weeks, then 531 for 14 mo, then Conjugate. When I asked Mike for some help he basically said "well I'd squat 480 this week then 490 the next and maybe 500 the next" lol.
What's the point? I got no clue I told you I'm slow...

Idunnolol. Talk to me in a couple of years when it starts getting hard. Right now everything seems to work.
But, now, I would like to share a work of art. My 8 year old son has a comic strip that he makes every day before school on the computer. He calls it the Walking Butt (taken from my favorite show The Walking Dead I'm sure). He is up to 28 now.
I present to you one of my favorites, #7:
