Never practiced wrestling but was on a school trip this weekend and had a wrestling match with this guy in front of the entire class. Friendly match no hate. Neither of us know any proper techniques so it was just a ****load of tumbling around. He doesn't really workout so I'm obviously stronger, but match ended when teacher came. It really sucks that you can't go full force without worrying about actually hurting someone. I had picked up the guy at one or two points, but really didn't want to slam him full force. Not gonna go break a classmate's neck over a friendly brawl.
How much grass could an ass to grass squater squat if an ass to grass squater could squat grass?

Most wrestlers tell me pressing strength doesn't really matter, makes sense when you think about it.

Just trying to strengthen my posterior chain and do a ton of cardio.

i personally think pressing strength matters. its good to keep a good base and if it didnt matter i dont think wrestlers would be doing hundreds of pushups and all dem wheelbarrels

My team doesnt have a lot of kids who lift regularly, the ones that do usually play football. We lift during the season. We just got a new coach and this is the first time we've done preseason lifting as a team. Now my school has placed in the Top 5, 6 years in a row, without having a bunch of regular weightlifters. For example, last season our JV 112lber was the state champ in Powerlifting, and the Varsity 112lber has a starving Ethiopian physique. But the Varsity kid was still better. Weighlifting is important in wrestling, but it isn't always the difference between placing at state and not even qualifying.

Now if your new to wrestling, your gonna want to have a big strength advantage, because everyone else will have the technique advantage at first.

I wrestled 125 last year, put on 20lbs since then, hopefully I can wrestle at 140 this year but knowing my coaches (I have 3) they'll make me cut weight like crazy and make me wrestle at 130.

if you can deadlift a lot, you'll be better at taking people down with takedowns (not throws)

if you can squat a lot, that will make you harder to take down

having some pressing power might help you control your opponent, but I don't find much more use for it

rowing(upperback) strength is a must when you're trying to pin someone

everything else your coach has to teach you

Each evening I go to bed with doubt by my side and each morning I wake with doubt to greet me. It ain’t easy to live with that sh*t, but it is a part of the uncommon life. There are no promises or guarantees, only an untold future with no regard for your desire for comfort or security.

Wrestling is more focused on losing body fat/muscle (hence the whole cutting part). And you will most likely be too exhausted to go to the gym after practice so I suggest you either go in the morning or eat a good pre-workout meal/supp after practice.

BJJ is similar with takedowns. However on the mat it is a lot different. In BJJ it's ok to have your back facing the mat. In wrestling, that's a pin. Ground fighting is a little different
Oh my coach would encourge it alright, but I guess it wasn't FORCED. He would have us run laps and sprints, and in the meantime he would shut the doors, and place 4 electric heaters in the 4 corners of the room. Did I mention this was in the middle of summer? Ralf city

    strength is all good.
but wrestling really takes heart, being mean, going 110% the whole match, basicly just wanting to desroy your opponent not just win.
