Never practiced wrestling but was on a school trip this weekend and had a wrestling match with this guy in front of the entire class. Friendly match no hate. Neither of us know any proper techniques so it was just a ****load of tumbling around. He doesn't really workout so I'm obviously stronger, but match ended when teacher came. It really sucks that you can't go full force without worrying about actually hurting someone. I had picked up the guy at one or two points, but really didn't want to slam him full force. Not gonna go break a classmate's neck over a friendly brawl.
How much grass could an ass to grass squater squat if an ass to grass squater could squat grass?

My team doesnt have a lot of kids who lift regularly, the ones that do usually play football. We lift during the season. We just got a new coach and this is the first time we've done preseason lifting as a team. Now my school has placed in the Top 5, 6 years in a row, without having a bunch of regular weightlifters. For example, last season our JV 112lber was the state champ in Powerlifting, and the Varsity 112lber has a starving Ethiopian physique. But the Varsity kid was still better. Weighlifting is important in wrestling, but it isn't always the difference between placing at state and not even qualifying.
Now if your new to wrestling, your gonna want to have a big strength advantage, because everyone else will have the technique advantage at first.

if you can deadlift a lot, you'll be better at taking people down with takedowns (not throws)
if you can squat a lot, that will make you harder to take down
having some pressing power might help you control your opponent, but I don't find much more use for it
rowing(upperback) strength is a must when you're trying to pin someone
everything else your coach has to teach you

Each evening I go to bed with doubt by my side and each morning I wake with doubt to greet me. It ain’t easy to live with that sh*t, but it is a part of the uncommon life. There are no promises or guarantees, only an untold future with no regard for your desire for comfort or security.
