Did you see the Steelers game? A real nailbiter. Steelers got lucky with that fumble review in the endzone .
Yes, I did. I had the stereo system on while I was training, but when my wife joined me, she insisted we turn it off and turn on the Steelers game. Of course, I immediately complied!

That was a fumble; the only question I had was who recovered it? I agree; the Steelers were handed a gift.

Thanks! These sessions are pretty dull to log, but they are what they are--necessary for my recovery. I've been using scheduled deload sessions pretty much my entire training career, so I'm very used to the plan.

When I first started using this method, I thought it was a waste of time, but gradually came around to my mentor's way of thinking about taking scheduled time to train light. It certainly has paid off for me.

LOL! I'm going to try, Yak!

Actually, in a month or so, I'm going to go back to what I did last Winter--heavy triples and doubles, in an effort to gain a bit more strength. It worked like a champ for me last year; no reason why it won't do the same now.

    Ironwill2008 V2.0

It's been raining since before dawn; couldn't get outdoors to do any of the stuff I had planned for today, so I got into the gym early instead. This is the second in a week's worth of light deload workouts, designed to give my joints and attachments, as well as my head, a break from regular work. Today's training was:

    Legs

    Barbell Squat
    135x10 W/U
    185x6
    185x6
    185x6

Machine Hack Squat PWO (plate weight only)
    200x12
    200x12
    200x12

    Barbell Lunge
    135x5
    135x5
    135x5

    Romanian Deadlift
    135x5
    225x5
    225x5
    225x5

    Machine Leg Curl PWO
    25x10
    25x10
    25x10

Completed this session in about a half-hour, and even worked up a bit of a sweat, due to the pretty much non-stop sets. We also spent a good part of that time trying to get a couple of decent pics due to poor light; the rain/overcast made the gym look and feel like a dungeon today.

Not a lot to be said about the training, other than the highlight of the session occurred during a let-up in the rain, and we caught this guy burying a walnut in the yard right outside the gym window:

That's all for today. Wednesday will bring a light shoulder/chest workout, and maybe another wildlife pic.
    No brain, no gain.

Hi, Rich! We had a house full of grandkids all weekend; they're lots of fun, but it's nice to get back to quiet around here today!

Deload time again; the months fly past like weeks.

That's good to hear, S. Be diligent in everything; it'll pay big dividends down the road.

I'm making the best of the light training. It's tough to come up with anything to post other than the numbers though!

Thanks, Dee. The light load for the week really helps my overall recovery.

Those little rascals are definitely industrious! We have a very large Walnut tree in our back yard, and as a result, many of the neighborhood's squirrels come here to grocery shop in the Fall (much to Sherman's chagrin!). Many years ago, there was one squirrel in particular, who would come right up on the deck when he saw me standing there, and come right up to me and start squawking until I would give him a peanut. He'd then sit right there on the spot, shuck it and eat it. When he'd finish eating, he'd make an odd chirping sound and then head back down into the yard. Very Alpha little fellow.

Thanks. They're not very exciting, but they are necessary from time to time. I'm usually okay with the light work until about Wednesday, when I start getting edgy to get back to regular training. And that, in itself, is another benefit of taking an occasional step back.

Hey, DF! How you been? Are you training again? If so, are you journaling here?

Thanks. I appreciate the comments! Progress comes in small increments these days. I have managed to improve my arms a good bit though. I'm currently working on making my pitiful calves pay attention.

    Thanks.

I cut everything back by 50% for the entire week, every 4th week. I do this on schedule, no questions asked. I started using regular deloads during my 2nd year, at about age 46. Back then, I was taking a light week every 8th. My recovery ability has gradually changed over the years; that's the reason for the decreased time between deloads these days.

The trick is to take that step back before you start to feel run-down. This can be determined by experience.
